In a small antique shop in the East End of London an old proprietor (Peter Cushing) promises a surprise with every purchase. These are the stories of four of his customers and their horrifying surprises...
The Elemental and The Gate Crasher tell of two individuals who attempt to cheat the shopkeeper and meet gruesome deaths. An Act of Kindness tells a bizarre, gruesome tale of true love between the daughter of an ex-service man and an unhappily married man. In The Door, a couple buy an antique door, which opens to an elegant, but evil, drawing room that must be kept alive by human sacrifices.
Watching the customers as they go in and out of the antique shop, a petty criminal sees the old proprietor as an easy mark. But when he attempts to rob and kill the old proprietor, he finds a chest filled with vicious Iron Maiden spikes. As the lid descends upon the robber, the shop bell rings. "Ah, another customer," says the proprietor benevolently. "Come in..."

They really don't make them like this any more and that is truly a shame. Full of quirky performances from English actors, many long-since passed away, this is a wonderful time capsule, but also funny, eerie and entertaining in it's own right. Peter Cushing frames the whole thing with an amusing performance as an antique dealer. One of the best of this sub-genre. Where are the portmanteau horror films of today?

This is a great film, Peter Cushing is the proprietor of 'Temptations' a decrepit old antique shop, that has lots of interesting items for sale.
The film features 4 short stories, each of which are drenched in evil. The customers that buy from 'Temptation's' all cheat the owner out of the price that is marked up. If the price is £250 they only want to pay a fraction, let's say £25. Cheating an old man is not the best thing to do, as they will pay heavily in the end for their wrong doing.
The picture, and sound quality of this film is very good indeed. The one thing this DVD needs is a chapter selection, or should I say story selection?.......
