They really don't make them like this any more and that is truly a shame. Full of quirky performances from English actors, many long-since passed away, this is a wonderful time capsule, but also funny, eerie and entertaining in it's own right. Peter Cushing frames the whole thing with an amusing performance as an antique dealer. One of the best of this sub-genre. Where are the portmanteau horror films of today?

This is a great film, Peter Cushing is the proprietor of 'Temptations' a decrepit old antique shop, that has lots of interesting items for sale.
The film features 4 short stories, each of which are drenched in evil. The customers that buy from 'Temptation's' all cheat the owner out of the price that is marked up. If the price is £250 they only want to pay a fraction, let's say £25. Cheating an old man is not the best thing to do, as they will pay heavily in the end for their wrong doing.
The picture, and sound quality of this film is very good indeed. The one thing this DVD needs is a chapter selection, or should I say story selection?.......

Down an unassuming little side street lies an unassuming little shop, called Temptations Ltd.
It is advisable upon entering this shop to be honest, and not to lie or cheat the proprietor(Peter Cushing),
no matter how much you may be tempted.
For if you do something life threatening or at least life changing will happen to you. Shoplifting in this shop could cost you your life.
With this interesting and highly original premise, I think what follows are some of the best Horror short stories ever committed to film.
~~~~
"The Gate Crasher" - a rather blood thirsty tale, in the literal sense, with David Warner and involving an Antique Mirror. One of his friends has the idea of holding a seance in the same room as the mirror, a very bad idea.
"FEED ME....BLOOD".
"An Act of Kindness" - a man with an unhappy married life tries to impress a down on his luck army veteran, by stealing an important medal from Temptations Ltd. A very bad move, which leads to severe family discord.
"The Elemental" - Ian Carmichael plays a fastidious but devious civil servant, who cheats Cushing out of the full price of a snuff box by substituting a cheaper price tag for the real one. As Cushing amusingly says as Carmichaels character leaves the shop. "I hope you enjoy snuffing it", but his wife corrects his devious habits.
"The Door" - A young couple purchase a 16th century door, one night the young man opens the door and finds not the stationery cupboard that should be there but a mysterious blue room. And the room's owner isn't the kind of person you would like living next door to.
Interweaved between these stories are scenes of a dodgy looking character attempting to enter the shop, but hurrying away everytime a customer enters, he ends up getting the Point.
The morality of this film is a simple one, honesty is always the best policy.
Been waiting for this one for about 10 years at least. A creepy compilation of short stories with some great actors in every story. Donald Pleasence and Diana Doors just about the best, and of course, the great Peter Cushing....this is a winner for classic horror fans
One of the best Amicus horror compilations, and about time too.
Hopefully this will lead to the release of other Amicus films on DVD like Tales From The Crypt staring a young Joan Collins.
Thank God! I've been waiting for this (as sad as it sounds) for bloomin' ages. There are a rake of films like this one still overdue for release. This was just as impossible to get on video never mind DVD. A film by Amicus, a worthy contender to the Hammer studios, that provide the right atmosphere for sitting down, lights dimmed on a week night with a nice freshly made cup of wet tea. It gives you the best nostalgia ride you've had for a while.
This is when British horror films were at their best and Amicus had a hand in most of those. Although I do like horror films that have gore in them I don't take to most of the glossy gorey horror movies of today, lots of good effects but no atmosphere, unlike what you'll find here in this movie.
I have waited years for this to come out on DVD to replace my old taped of the telly copy from about thirteen years ago. Vintage horror fans around the world will be celebrating it's release. This is the best of the montage films of the 70's. Genuinely creepy.
