When I went to see this there wasn't a single woman in the cinema. To pinch a phrase, 'Hitman - it's not for girls'. With no exaggeration, this was 100 minutes of stylized violence interspersed with gratuitous nudity. Timothy Olyphant, liberated from the necessity to act, is rather good. While it would have been nice to make his character less likeable (I should not have found myself warming to an emotionless contract killer), this was not Olyphant's fault, but almost certainly the studio's.

'Hitman' knows it is an action film and thankfully never gets ideas above its station. Olyphant's job is to kill people elaborately, his enemies are expected to die obediently and the girl is meant to get naked frequently. In fact, very frequently. And for no apparent reason. It is possible that Olga Kurylenko is a very good actress. It is also possible that she got the part because 1) she's Russian 2) she's a model 3) she was willing to undress on camera. Director Xavier Gens seems aware of the former possibility, and yet after a (no doubt lengthy) struggle with his action thriller conscience he decided to just let her parade round in a thong for the sake of it.

The plot, predictably, is implausible. I cannot fathom why so much of it was shot in Russia, nor why Agent 47 was given Russian Orthodox affiliations. So far as I know (= according to Wikipedia) there is no precedent for either in the original videogame. Why this was introduced, why an action thriller spends such an inordinate amount of time in one country (very unBond, a clear influence throughout), only a tight budget can explain.

Overall, this is exceedingly watchable. It could have been aimed just at the fans with a slew of subtle references that would have mystified the rest of us. Instead, it is an excellent action film in its own right, and while it (sadly) lacks the depth and intelligence of a truly great action film such as 'Casino Royale' (whose aesthetic it clearly emulates), this still ranks extremely high. Action films are above all about two things - irony value and getting the pulse racing. This does both.

In comparison to the Bournes and recent Bonds it's hard to fit Hitman into the same Genre, however as it is when considered as a film in its own right it is an enjoyable romp. I found it surprisingly enjoyable with decent acting and a fairly steady storyline.

Sure it isn't the most complex and has feelings of the Saint Movie (Val Kilmer version) but still an entertaining 90 minutes. Looking through the film I hardly expected Agent 47 to be played by this choice but he carried it surrisingly well.

Don't expect more than an action film or you will end up disappointed but enjoy it for what it is. In respect of computer game/film tie ins this pulls it off surprisingly well. Sure the hardcore fans of the Hitman Game series feel elements of the Agent 47 character have been missed but this could well be a franchise in the making.

For a gun toting, fun run with enough to keep you entertained for 90 minutes grab hold or wait until the sales and grab an enjoyable bargain when it drops.

I was really impressed by this film - very good indeed. Timothy Olyphant acts as a great Hitman and agent 47 is given severe justice, with Timothy playing the role.
Well worth £12.99 - a great film!

Not that bad an action film but compared to what it could have been (a very decent action/thriller with good storyline and such) it is not very good.

It is quite entertaining but I couldn't help but think it should have been so much better, like prctically all games adaptations. And wasnt' Agent 47 English (or have a British accent)in the game? A young American actor and accent didnt really suit the character.

Watch it with low expectations as I did, an it may not seem too bad, and if you like 'LOST' or 'Prison Break' (like me) you could find it interesting to see 'T-Bag' from PB and 'Desmond' from Lost playing Russian bad guys.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Worth a watch.

This is a film you will either, see and wonder where the time went, or turn it off after 10min.

This is the type of film you have to watch with no expectations. When you are a fan of the video games, it is hard to adjust when you know this film is about Agent 47 and you expect a storyline like one of the games.

This film is just an action film where it feels like the story and film was made first and Agent 47 was put in at the last minute if you are a big fan of the games.

I personally enjoyed the movie the whole way through and would definately watch it many times over. Timothy Olyphant puts a more human and charming face to an icon which (in the games) is cold and merciless. Dougray Scot did a good part and brought some realism to the film. Think of this film as being the last chapter in Agent 47's life, where he nearing the end maybe of his "Hitman" days. I only hope there will be a sequel, but i doubt it.

Watch it with no expectations, and make up your own mind.

Just so bad. Didn't like the Audi, they could at least have got him a Lamborghini or something a bit more exciting. Vin Diesel is executive producer of this movie, and it shows. I'll stick to the game thanks.
