An iconic film of the German expressionist cinema, and one of the most famous of all silent movies, F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror continues to haunt - and, indeed, terrify - modern audiences with the unshakable power of its images. By teasing a host of occult atmospherics out of dilapidated set-pieces and innocuous real-world locations alike, Murnau captured on celluloid the deeply-rooted elements of a waking nightmare, and launched the signature "Murnau-style" that would change cinema history forever.
In this first-ever screen adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, a simple real-estate transaction leads an intrepid businessman deep into the superstitious heart of Transylvania. There he encounters the otherworldly Count Orlok - portrayed by the legendary Max Schreck, in a performance the very backstory of which has spawned its own mythology - who soon after embarks upon a crosscontinental voyage to take up residence in a distant new land... and establish his ambiguous dominion. As to whether the count's campaign against the plague-wracked populace erupts from satanic decree, erotic compulsion, or the simple impulse of survival - that remains, perhaps, the greatest mystery of all in this film that's like a blackout...

Most people hear the year '1922' and just shut off. "There were films in 1922?!" they say, well yes there were, and one was just magnificent. 'Nosferatu' is the definitive Vampire movie, without a doubt. This film may be dated, silent and black and white, but it bears a terror than none of today's films could ever match.
German director F.W. Murnau sculpted a masterpiece that will continue to scare for centuries to come.
The scratchy and blurred camera-work helps build the earth-shuddering suspense, the dead silence is almost deafening and the character of Nosferatu is just bone-chilling.
I couldn't recommend this movie enough.
'Nosferatu' is not only the most important Vampire film ever made, but it's a member of the best films ever made.

This film may be silent, but it speaks louder than most of todays horrors. It may be dated, but it is a masterclass in terror.
This film took the director to Hollywood, and it has since spawned many imitators.
It is the film that Bram Stoker's widow tried to ban. They burnt every copy, but one survived, just like Nosferatu himself.
You should buy this film as it is the best Vampire film ever made. If you like it then check out Herzog's version of the same film, and also Shadow Of A Vampire, which is based on the making of this Nosferatu.
I can't reccommend this highly enough!
