Focusing on the disappearance of a young girl within a crime-saturated neighbourhood Gone Baby Gone is an urban mystery of failure that mixes high-wire suspense with vivid characters and provocative themes. This dark, hard-bitten, and powerful adaptation of Dennis Lehane's haunting and emotional crime novel Gone Baby Gone sees Ben Affleck, in his debut directorial role, produce an intense crime thriller that is constantly surprising and deeply compelling.

Dorchester, a tough district of Boston where the gritty, working class streets are lined with the wreckage of broken families and dreams, is home to private investigator Patrick Kenzie (Casey Affleck). With professional partner and girlfriend Angela (Michelle Monaghan), Patrick investigates minor criminal cases. Their approachable tone and familiarity with the neighbourhood enables them to talk to people the police cannot. When four-year-old Amanda McCready (Madeline O'Brien) is abducted from her bedroom after her drug addicted mother Helene (Amy Ryan) leaves her alone, the local police unit led by Capt. Jack Doyle (Morgan Freeman) and his ace detective Remy Bressant (Ed Harris) use all their resources to try and track the little girl down. With the police making no headway, Patrick and Angela are bought in by Amanda's proud and virtuous aunt Bea to start their own investigation. As Patrick and Angela delve further down a path in to the dark heart of the neighbourhood they uncover an intensifying web of sordid lies and a labyrinthine maze of class, corruption, evil and innocence.

With every clue or fact that is revealed, tension mounts and, much like Clint Eastwood's adaptation of Lehane's Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone packs an emotionally powerful punch that keeps you ultimately involved and unaware of what is around the corner. By opting for a cast that consists of established and confident actors like Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris paired with real-life, toughened Bostonians straight out of local pool-halls and clubs, Ben Affleck has managed to portray the tough, real feel of the streets of South Boston with natural grit and charm and has adapted Dennis Lehane's best-selling novel Gone Baby Gone in to a terrifying and intellectually engaging feature.

Everyone Wants The Truth... Until They Find It.

This story of two detectives investigating the kidnapping of a little girl is one of the most powerful films I've seen in my life. Certainly my favourite of it's genre. The film is also famously Ben Affleck's directorial debut and I'll say that he absolutely knocked this out of the park. It was Affleck that wrote the screenplay which is an adaptation from Dennis Lahne's novels. The screenplay is wonderful and I'd say that Affleck was very unlucky to not recieve an oscar nomination in this catagory.

Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan lead a very solid cast. They are in good company though with Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris both bringing their A game to the film.

The plot has many twists and turns before we find the truth behind the abduction of the little girl. Without giving away the ending I will say that the actions taken by the moral choices the characters are forced to deal with in this film will split audiences and will probably cause heated arguements between those that watch it. This sadly is something of a rarity in film these days. Ben Affleck has put together a truly remarkable film that is well worth a purchase.

A journey through our human heart

This is Ben Affleck's first feature film as a director, and one must say it's a brilliant achievement. His brother in the lead is as good as the older brother is behind the camera.
Using the pretext of a missing child case, with all the efficiently shot sequences of the police investigation involved, the Afflecks take us in the very core of the human complexities as regards good and evil... we see the scums of Boston, we see the cops, we see poor people, what's right to do, what's right to be done?...
the common point seems to be the suffering of all, and as spectators, we do share that pain.
Don't be mistaken, this film will stick to you. It's not a thriller you forgot two weeks later.
This is a major film to be remembered.

Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan star in this clever thriller directed by Caseys' brother Ben Affleck. Monaghan and Affleck are a couple of private detectives who specialise in missing persons, however they are about to embark on their most mysterious and baffling case when they are hired to track down a missing girl.
The performances are great from the two leads and they are supported very well by Hollywood veterans Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris. As a director Ben Affleck shows us what an understated talent he has. 8/10

Good Film, Interesting story, one that will divide people right down the middle, I didn't agree with the ending.
The twists and turns were very good and just about plausible
Casey Affleck's characters Morales and opinions of Right & Wrong are very grey in my opinion.
The cast was good Casey Affleck is at the beginning of a very promising career, his dialogue delivery is just awesome, Ed Harris was equally good, Michelle Monahan was adequate and Morgan Freeman was effective in a smaller role.
Respect to Ben Affleck for choosing an uncomfortable and risky debut for his first directorial effort, he did a fantastic job as a director and I hope he does well with it. I've never been a fan of Ben Affleck, but having seen him on top (Goodwill Hunting, Armageddon) and then the whole J-Lo phase (Gigli), then disappeared, then came back with agood ACTING performance in Hollywoodland and then directed this well received movie and is next to be seen opposite Russell Crowe in State of play. Well done to him, people don't get 2nd chances, they have to dig them out themselves.
Anyway Good Movie
