You never know when your number is up!

The Nines consists of three short films, each featuring the same actors in different roles.

The Prisoner tells the story of a troubled television star (Ryan Reynolds) who finds himself under house arrest, with his chipper publicist (Melissa McCarthy) and disillusioned next-door neighbor (Hope Davis) providing his only links to the outside world. Mysterious events lead him to question whether one or both women are deceiving him about the nature of his incarceration.

Reality Television is a half-hour episode of "Behind the Screen," a Project Greenlight-style documentary series tracking the process of creating a network television drama. Having shot the pilot, creator/showrunner Gavin Taylor (also Ryan Reynolds) faces post-production with the help of his best friend (and lead actress) Melissa McCarthy and development VP Susan Howard (Hope Davis).

Knowing finds an acclaimed videogame designer (also Ryan Reynolds) and his wife (Melissa McCarthy) facing car trouble deep in the woods. Their daughter (Elle Fanning) uncovers information which leads to a difficult and irrevocable choice.

I absolutely love this film. I have to admit I was kinda confused at times but it was a good type of confusion! It was so clever and interesting and the end just blew me away. Its a film I could watch over and over again and see something new every time. Loved it!

 Enjoyable indie sci-fi

I quite enjoyed this one. Ryan Reynolds demonstrated that he can, in fact, act - something I wouldn't have previously thought possible, taking into account his previous efforts. The fact that he, and most of the other principles in the film (Hope Davis and Melissa McCarthy in particular), played multiple characters is even more noteworthy. The film has a very 'indie' feel, and reminded me of 'Primer' at times. It bears comparisons with 'Donnie Darko', while, for me at least, being more accessible. Certainly one of the more original sc-fi movies I've seen recently, definitely recommended.

The advertising for this cinematic release was very impressive, and I could not wait to buy the DVD. However, on viewing I was torn between the professional acting and the confusing story line, that thought it was more clever than it actually was. The Critics spoke about it having metaphysical signifance, perhaps so, but it seemed a derivative of "Donnie Darko", and the ending was contextually "Jungian", but simultaneously felt over sentimental.

Reynolds shines in this independant film

Really loved 'The Nines' and it was refreshing to see Reynolds playing characters that wernt of his normal comic goof ball.

Reynolds plays three seperate characters in the movie, each character was its own person and other than the simularities in looks (obviously) they were all played very differently.

August's arty way of filming, with individual camera angles and short second shots made it feel like a very indepent film, with major film tendencies.

The cast were fantastic, and other than Reynolds, I loved Melissa Mcarthys characters, all qwirky and bubbly.

And all round confusing, great, cinematic movie. Reminded me a little of Jim Carreys 'Number 23' with all the '9s' too. Well done John and well done Ryan. Just fantastic.
