This is a MUST for musical fans, it is a brilliant movie of the hit musical show and doesn't disappoint. A real feel good movie and you won't stop singing the songs for days after you've watched it! Although there are some differences from the actual musical show, the best bits are all still in there (my only negative is that the song 'Mama I'm A Big Girl Now' is not in the movie, but it is on the soundtrack).

  really enjoyable

I was pestered into watching this by my wife and its safe to say why most men dont want to watch this film its very cheesey to say the least and John Travolta dressed as a woman is very scary.
The music is ok the songs are ok too if your other half forces you to watch it then there are worse films to watch than this but as a guy dont watch it out of free will wait until your forced. From a womans point of view im sure you will love it as it really is aimed at you.

Hairspray is a great, fun musical film which everyone would enjoy to watch. the film is set in the early 60's in a town called Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonksy) a young girl with with dreams of being able to dance on her favourite tv show " The Corny Collins Show" her dreams come true until an unhappy manager changes this. tracy and her friends and family help to get the show up and running again with both white and black people.
great film! 5 stars from me

The first time I saw this film I was not really struck but after more than 20 times I adore it. Love the music Love the Characters Love the story love love love it. It never fails to raise a smile. Some really funny one liners, Amanda Bynes was actually my favourite character.

  Fun and Big-Bummed

I have to admit that I probably shouldn't like this film; as far as movies go, especially with such a well-known cast, it's pretty bad but in the way that you just can't help but like it. Fans of musicals will adore it but anyone hoping to see a repeat of John Travolta in those lovely tight trousers from Grease will be highly disappointed! However, the performances of Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer are extremely good and entertaining. This film is light-hearted and has a few very funny quotes in it.

I absolutely love this film - watched it over one hundred times, know all the words, songs, have the songs on my ipod. A lot better than high school muscial. If you dont like this then you must be absolutely mad cuz its the best film i have ever seen. I so want to go see it in the west end. Love the storyline and all the songs are amazing. So are the actors. Love penny who is played by amanda bynes. A must have for everyone.

When i first saw the film in the cinema I was expecting a few hours of escapism, and thus was slightly irritated when i ended up counting down the minutes untill i could leave.
Hairspray unashamedly dums down the historically important issue of black rights and segregation and is also unashamedly preaching to audiences.
It may be great for children, but not for lovers of the original, or, in fact, the stage show.
