A brilliant film and absolutely hilarious at times. I have to admit that I wasn't sure at first but I loved it. Not a film to be taken to seriously but great for kids especially. Loved it.

I first saw this at the cinema and I hated it, the main reason for this was due to the awful performance from John Travolta - What is his accent supposed to be??
Anyway, after it was released on DVD and I had chance to become familiar again with the songs, I decided to watch it again and even though I still winced through Mr Travolta's awful performance, I actually enjoyed it this time round.
All the cast dance and sing their hearts out with the excellent choreography and some of the catchiest songs that you will find in a musical! You may not notice how bad John Travolta is but I think it is the only think that spoils the film.

Hairspray 2007 - this is the new Grease!!

I loved the original 1987 film with Ricki Lake and Divine, and wondered how the 2007 version would compare 20 years later... What a brilliant surprise! I hadn't seen the stage show, but now wish I had - really catchy original soundtrack, and only a slight deviation from the story of the original film. This really is the 'new' Grease - a 'must have' for anyone who loves to sing along to a catchy tune!! John Travolta and Christopher Walken are real surprises with their very different from usual roles, and I look forward to seeing Nikki Blonsky in her next film - she is a true star...

  Better than Grease!!!

I loved this film, not only does it get u gripped from the start, but it keeps u gripped all the way through the film. The singing and dancing is great, and the storyline has so much meaning and like most films...its leaves u with a moral. The characters are great also. Brilliant flick!

I stumbled across this film recently and just loved it. I do love musicals and this one is definately up there with the greats. Its full to bursting with songs your bound to like, at least one if not all of them and you are soon singing along. I thought the cast was amazing and particularly liked John Travolta and Christopher Walken together. It has so many feel good moments and is bound to brighten up any day after watching it and as they say 'You can't stop the beat' so i am recommending it to all.

not terrible but it not the best film of the year either. its mildly entertaining and for someone who doesnt like musicals the songs are surprisingly entertaining, some ppoints are slightly slow but you can always laugh at john travolta in drag if you need cheering up. word of warning guys dont buy for ANY girl since they will watch it and NEVER stop going on about zac efrons apparent hottness, it only takes the duration of hairspray to dislike him. if you like musicals buy this!!!! if not then buy for a friend its quite worth watching

wish i could rate this higher than 5. I saw this at the cinema and really liked it. got it for xmas and i've probably watched it at least 5 times since then. The acting/dancing is great from the young cast and the songs are absolutely fantastic. i challenge anyone to watch this and not be tapping your foot along. all in all a brilliant film that casts a massive shadow over the original.
