  An Entertaining Black Comedy

| | See all deanlowdon's reviews (468)

Following on from the first season George has now been a reaper for more than a year and is starting to realise that life as a reaper is just as complicated as life as a teenager as she continues to collect souls whilst managing her own development into an adult.

This second season was certainly on a par with the first as the show continued to demonstrate its unique brand of black comedy and we really start to become invested in the characters lives. Unfortunately Dead Like Me remained a tough sell and it continued to struggle in the ratings and that was a shame. It may not have been perfect but it was certainly different and you could do a lot worse than pick up the two seasons now available on DVD.

Dead Like Me proved to a hit with critics and audiences alike which lead to a second season. However Season 2 proved to be the last of the show as the production company went bankrupt leading to the show's cancellation.

Dead Like Me is more character driven this season. While the first season is more focussed on George, she still is this season but you get a chance to learn more about Rube and Daisy's past. Roxy becomes a police woman leading to interesting things with her character. Her tension between Daisy continues to grow. Daisy finds herself converting to be a Catholic and goes through a spiritual journey in the first half. The second half see's her sexual chemistry with Mason develop as well as becoming entangled in a relationship with Tv producer Ray summers. Mason hasn't changed a bit. George becomes more independant this season. She gets herself a car, becomes more headstrong in her job at Happy time and finds herself developing feelings for some guys.

On the living side, Reggie also becomes more independent and headstrong despite her parents divorce and the prospect of moving away from her childhood. She also becomes less of a loner and branches out socially.

Season 2 consists of 15 episodes. The show is very dark this season. Especially in the last three episodes. Thankfully the show and it's very last scene does not end of a cliffhanger but leaves you wanting more. I much prefer this season then the first because of the major character development. You truly begin to know the characters very well this season.

  love it!

This show makes me laugh and cry in some episodes!
I love both series 1 and 2 and was really dissapointed that a 3rd wasnt made!
This series is a gem, and i'm suprised more people dont know about this show!

Sadly Missed - Maybe the best Genre Show ever made.

Most shows that try to run multiple plot arcs and individual stories fail terribly, but dead like me got it right from the first episode to the last. Some people found the back story of george's family coping after her death a little intrusive to the reaper tales, but it's well-written - well-acted drama. The core of the show though is the five reapers and george's continued difficulty to accept her new 'life' as a reaper. All of the cast have their moments, but mason continues to get the best lines, closely followed by rube and delores. George's day job as a temp at (of all places) a temp agency is a stroke of genius and you will never tire of those scenes. Another criticism i heard is that george (played by ellen muth) was not pretty enough. Pfft!! She was the ideal choice to play the wonderfully disinterested george.

Sadly, both rube and daisy are missing from the new movie version that's been made and rube was the glue that held the show together. Whenever he's on the screen his performances are magnetic and you will love rube.

Like firefly, dead like me was a clever, witty show that refused to treat it's audience like morons. And like firefly, some moron at the network cancelled it before it got the chance to fully reach it's potential or to build up the audience it deserved.

If you liked buffy, chances are high you will like this - maybe even more. Word of warning though. There is some very strong language in this show and most of the deaths - while being very funny - may not be suitable viewing for youngsters.

I watched it when it was on Sky One & I loved it, I don't know why they didn't make a season 3, there's a similar series on E4 called Reaper & the person who played Delores Herbig (Christine Willes) is in it but only has a small part

I would give this show 5 stars based on the quality of entertainment in it's episodes alone. Throw in a bunch of DVD extras, like "making of" featurettes, and deleted scenes, and knok a few quid off the retail price, and it's one of the best buys on play.

As mentioned before, the first series is a must buy to get the story and feel for the show, but like I say in my season one review, it's another 5 star box set.

Yet again this TV studios and stations got it wrong. They aired this show late on a night with very little advertising or publicity, then complained when it failed to pull in viewers. Sadly this meant that the show was cancelled after only 2 seasons.

However, totally by chance, i happened to catch Dead Like Me when it was repeated, and from then on i was hooked. It's one of them series that when you've got it on DVD, you just have to watch the next episode. If you've got a dark sense of humor, and don't mind watching the odd disgusting death, then this series will be right up your street. But, do your self a favor, and watch the first series first.

Although this show has been cancelled, a DVD movie of the show is currently in production, and will be released in summer 2008. Should the movie prove successful, the buzz is that the show may get picked up again.

So fingers crossed, and watch out for the DVD movie of this awesome show.
