Don't mind Tattooed's comment, doubt he's seen more than one episode let alone both seasons. My opinion is that this is an excellent series which was cut short. Mason is just hilarious a character with many witty comments. The way the job of a grim reaper is compared to a temp office worker and filing clerk is rather amusing.
For fans who don't know yet there is a Dead Like Me movie being made, check out the teaser trailer on google or youtube! And if that goes well we may well be in for a 3rd series!
As luck would have it, I managed to turn on my TV as the pilot episode started and I havn't stopped laughing since. Ellen Muth, as the deadpan lead character 'George/ina' was inspired casting, as was the rest of the cast. They had no problems falling immediately into their characters. I was amazed it was placed into such a late night TV slot, with little or no publicity. Horror of Horrors! It did not go into Season 3 and on and on. Shame on the producers and TV companies! (There is a similar-style TV series called 'Reaper' currently on TV but it is one-dimensional compared to this.)
For those of you who have not seen the series, the first episode is where the lead character is killed! - Don't worry, I fell off my seat laughing! Honestly! Rather than finding herself in Heaven/Hell, she remains on Earth and finds she is one of a team of Soul-Reapers! The team have to snatch (reap) the souls of those who are (for the most part) unknowingly moments from death, to protect those souls until they 'go into the light.'
The team receive their 'assignments' by way of a yellow 'post it' note from their supervisor. The note contains only two pieces of information...the person's name and the ETD...Estimated Time of Death! As you can imagine, the causes of death are wide and varied, but the trick of the script-writers is to get the team member in situ, seconds before that death so they can reap the soul BEFORE the person dies. All team members still have to maintain themselves while on earth, so they have jobs and relationships. Yes, this is a wondereful comedy series, but as you might expect, there are moments of sadness and reflection and they are acted with the dignity you would expect.
A wonderful series that was 'Reaped' before its time!
Superb series, am glad i caught it on tv when it was the 1st season, totally excellant viewing, thats why im gonna buy all seasons dvd's. Definatly worth it. :)
What can I say, oh dear. You may find this slightly entertaining if you happen to be an adolescent girl, if not dont bother. Its not funny, or clever or....well....anything. Very glad i rented this and didnt buy it! AVOID
I tend to only watch shows that keep my interest, and I'm very fickle. Dead Like Me is amazing, I can't do anything but watch it when its on. Ellen Muth (as Georgie) just takes my breath away when I watch it, and the other characters like Rude just complement the show. I really hope they make more series of this in the future, because it would be a shame to lose such a brilliant series for the future.
I suggest you buy it! I know I am.
