Pregnant and alone, Felicia (Elaine Cassidy), a beautiful young Irish girl arrives in Birmingham in search of her errant lover. Disowned by her father, Felicia is desperate to find the English lover who has deserted her. Unable to do so, she meets Mr Hilditch (Bob Hoskins), a lonely catering manager and a tireless befriender of homeless girls. A seemingly kind, if eccentric gentleman, he is however much more than he appears to be and slowly entices her into his macabre world of terror and suspense.
