Ghost World

I love this movie so much! Quirky and cool just doesn't even begin to describe it!

Thora & Scarlett are absolutely brilliant as the 2 very unique lead characters!

I saw this ages ago & am now the proud owner of the DVD! A must see for all fans of movies like me that are just the little bit different and somewhat out-of-this-world!

This movie will make you smile, laugh and bring tears to your eyes. Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson portray their characters to perfection. And Seymour the collector has to be one of the most loveable characters of all time!

I only bought it a couple of weeks ago and have already watched it five times since....really can't praise it highly enough.

A nicely low key but highly entertaining film well performed by its lead actors.

Een angst movie at its best with great performances from all involved. I really wanted to be like enid(but that passed), sharply written script with some really funny and witty dialogue you'll be quoting for days. This movie represents all of us who've been called a loser, nerd , freak , outcast. Rejoice in this film we're finally accepted huh or are we ?

Calling to mind the more recent 'indie' hits about teens like 'Juno' and 'Brick', 'Ghost World' contains all the quirkyness one comes to expect from such a film. This was made back when that kind of thing was a bit fresher though, so here the themes, jokes and characters are more different than the more manufactured creations we're starting to get now.
Based on Daniel Clowes equally quirky graphic novel about the most mundane of life experiences, Enid and Becky's misadventures in the etherworld between highschool and adulthood are a compendium of seemingly random events and encounters that nonetheless show how rambling and piece-meal the routine of life really is. The film concerns itself more about Enid than Becky, tending to veer off onto her as the film progresses, but it also builds up the drama and all the relationships have a true emotional conviction, even the central 'couple'. There's a heart-tugging sadness as a defeated Enid goes to her old bus stop after all she's been through and how lacklustre she finds herself at coping with things.
Injected into this apparently morbid tale is a welcome streak of humour, of varying kinds, but almost always hilariously funny, and coming across with natural ease and out of nowhere, which goes to show how unforced the whole 'quirkyness' thing used to be.
This is more of a niche film, one that has the unfortunate 'love it/hate it' quality about it, but at least it does give those who love it many pleasures along the way.
