I don't think you should pay mind to some reviews for this. You have to understand that this movie doesn't try to be anything other than a good old fashioned splatterfest.
The characters are not made to be deep or anything like that, they are what I like to call the typical horror style "lambs to the slaughter" characters. They each have their funny moments thrown in for entertainment, but overall they are not meant to be anything more than people to provide the body count.
If you are looking for an original horror movie with a real edge of your seat, plot-twisting storyline then avoid this movie. If however you are an avid horror movie fan who does appreciate a genuine good horror movie, but also enjoys a flat out 80-90 minutes splatterfest then watch this. It is by far one of the best gorefests you are most likely to come across.
The blood and gore is extremely over the top, like it should be. The death scenes are ridiculously violent and brutal... and entertaining. They are not just the same old "chick gets stabbed" or "dude has head cut off".. they are inventive.
I think the death scenes are truly wonderful, they are the stand out part of the movie, typified with the power sander to the face scene. That was just pure GOLD!
Victor Crowley is another great entrant to the horror/slasher movie icons. I think they could make a few Hatchet movies with him just running rampant and killing people in various manners... much like the Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th movies.
At his core, Victor Crowley is nothing new.. a disfigured killer with that same old backstory.. but it works you know. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. He is abnormally strong, you can't seem to kill him and you have next to no chance of escaping him. Its all good fun. And of course with the legendary Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees) playing him, you know you are getting a great killer to watch.
Cameos from horror icons Robert Englund and Tony Todd just add to the whole experience. Really, I think this is a very entertaining watch and if you love horror gorefests you will love this movie as I did.
