Review

Inspired by Carpenter's 1978 original, Rob Zombie's Halloween focuses on the early years of the young Michael Myers. After going on a murdering rampage in his home-town Michael is sentenced to 17 years of incarceration at the Smith's Grove Sanitarium maximum-security mental facility where he is treated by noted child behaviorist Dr. Samuel Loomis - the only person who can truly understand Michael's evil nature.

Now, 17 years later, Michael escapes from the mental facility on Halloween and begins a murderous trek back to Haddonfield to continue his killing streak and seek resolution to events from his past.

In Haddonfield, Michael begins stalking a high school girl, Laurie Strode, and her friends, Annie and Lynda. When Dr. Loomis, now a successful author for his book on Michael, hears of his escape, he enlists the help of Haddonfield's Sheriff Brackett to find and put an end to Michael's reign of terror.

Up to now, Rob Zombie's horror films have been alright, but not great. A little too out there. Not HALLOWEEN! I love this film, it may be the finest horror I've seen in years, much better than the original in my opinion, especially the inclusion of Michael Myers' childhood. The whole film just comes across as being very realistic and gritty. Trust me and check it out, it's brilliant!

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars surprisingly good

the original halloween is one of my all time fav films so wasn't exactly thrilled when i heard they had remade it, i decided to watch it anyway out of curiosity and turned out it was pretty good, it was very interesting to see why michael turned out the way he did, however i thought a few scenes uncomfortable like the rape scene but other than that id definitly recommend it

Let me start by saying I am a MASSIVE fan of the original, its up there in my top 5 films of all time and I can honestly say this film doesn't deter anything away from the original. It takes a completely different approach and its all the better for it. There is no way Rob Zombie could have attempted a straight remake as there is no way it would have worked. I watched this in the cinema so it was a lot more jumpy than it probably would be at home but it is definately worth a watch. Another ace film from Rob Zombie!
