Halloween: Directors Cut (2007)

The original John Carpenters Halloween, is the greatest slasher film ever made.
To find Rob Zombie was going to remake this classic, filled me with dread and fear for all the wrong reasons. Very rarely has a remake been as good or even rarer better than the original. The 2003 remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes have been a exception to this rule. This being a John Carpener remake, the memory of the dreadful attempt to up-date The Fog sprang to mind.
This remake is a very different beast to the original. The first half an hour is devoted to the set-up of the Massacre of Michael's sister. The other half a hour is devoted to Dr Loomis trying to reach young Micheal. These scenes are very well staged as Loomis has to accept that he is loosing the child. They have a very rare thing about them for a slasher film and that is a massive emotional impact.
Then Michael escapes Smith's Grove Mental Hospital and the night of terror truly begins.
The tension is in every second of the film. This film has alot of blood, which in contrast to the original is shocking, but fits the style of this version, as it is alot more nastier.
If there was a fault to pick with this superb remake it would be that the final section of the film seems a little rushed,as when Michael escapes, the killing spree is less than the time taken with the set-up.
But for such well thought out horror, this fault can be forgiven.
Rob Zombie has done a brilliant job re-imagining this classic story, whilst this film will always be hated by Die Hard Halloween fans, just because they have remade the classic. But with this much thought and restucturing of the terror, this cannot be cast off as a lazy remake. This film beats all the sequels to the original, and adds new life to this classy horror lagacy.
A brilliant horror with brains, a very wothy remake to the original classic, and in my eyes is just as good as John Carpenters original.

I thought that the film was so in depth and even made me feel for the child that was Micheal Myers. Its not just a slasher film it actually takes you into the mind of Micheal and almost makes you understand why he is the way he is. I would recommend that anyone who loves Halloween should deffo see this, Its the best.

Having grown up with the Halloween films, this remake makes me sick. To begin with Michael is made into some angry kid with ripped jeans and a bad mouth, along with a not so nice family, which creates a contrast from the child we see in the original movie which is a lot more mysterious and leaves teh audience to wonder why, as well as creating a feeling of discomfort; with the given context from Zombies movie we lose that unsettling feeling and just begin to not care. At all. Then as the story moves on you watch it destroy all of the character you grew up with and loved. By the end of it I was waiting for it to finish and it couldn't have finished too soon for me.

This is a remake which shouldn't have been made. Halloween is a classic and this is no justice to it. By the end of the movie you care little for the characters. If you've seen the original don't bother watching this. It's a cheap copycat slander.

The only question this film leaves me with is, why?!

Rob zombies new vision of john carpenters classic- " Halloween" not so much a remake,but of a reinvention. this version starts off with a young michael myers and his ability to go from a normal troublesome boy,to the terrifying monster that becomes unleashed in him. after he brutally murders his family and a few other people,michael is sent to a an asylem where he is the subject for a psycologist to figure out why he killed so many.. as the years progress,michael becomes more and more of a recluse,refusing to talk and hiding behind many masks that he makes while locked up. after many years he escapes and goes in search of his sister.. leaving a trail of destruction in his quest. rob zombie breathes new life into one of horrors most famous killers and the results are excellent and shocking. this is one of the most frightning stabathons of recent years.
