  Third time lucky?

| | See all MichaelK's reviews (6)

This is the third straight to dvd Futurama film and after the somewhat disappointing 'The Beast With A Billion Backs' it has alot of work to do - would it be third time lucky? Yes, yes it was. The usual excellence in voice acting and animation is here but this film has a key ingredient that was lax in the preceding films - humor. It may not be the cleverest Futurama has ever done but gosh darn it it will make you laugh. It also does not suffer from pacing issues anywhere near as much as the first two films. Overall it's a big step up from The Beast With A Billion Backs' and in terms of comedy if not so much story it surpasses Bender's Big Score (the 1st film) too. I give the film itself 8/10. The technical quality (clarity/sharpness of sound, picture quality) is all above board and warrants a 9/10. The only disappointment is with the special features. What's here is off less quality and crucially of less quantity than in the previous dvd's. It's good don't get me wrong but it could have been much better. As an example I'll use the audio commentary. It has it's moments of funniness but rarely does it stay on topic or tell you anything about the film itself bar small trivial details. There are also about five or six different people which means there is no continuity to the conversation nor do some of the participants get a chance to participate. Overall the special features are worth a 6/10. In conclusion this is an excellent Futurama film on the whole, one that fans are certainly sure to enjoy and at this price good value too but lumbered with a lackluster special features package.

  It's Fun on The Bun!

This Film is Absolutely amazing much better than bender's score, BWABB and Into The Wild Green Yonder. if only the films would have ended on this one.

I thought a Beast with A Billion Backs was a new low for the franchise, I was wrong. This was dreadful. I don't know what film most of the people here have been watching but it wasn't the insult to the franchise I saw. The main plot strand has already been done to much funnier effect by both South Park & The Simpsons and it just struck me as lazy writing. As a major fan of the series it pains me to say, I'm out, won't be bothering with the next one.

Well im a great fan of futurama and I must say I was let down by this film, I got alot less laughs out of this one. Their are 4 feature length episodes as you may know, I would reccomend this if you have the other two because it will help the story flow better. I wouldnt reccomend this as your first experience of futurama as it will put you off it, you would be much better off getting benders big score or beast of a billion backs.
All in all it has its moments but is a bit of a let down.

This is the best film of the lot.

This is a departure from the standard futurama formula, what with the fantasy elements, but this has breathed fresh life into this season especially with the greater inclusion of Dr Zoidberg than previous films.
This film is the least like an individual release and much more like a compilation of episodes, but all the better for it. Whereas the other films can feel a bit over long in some parts this was evidently written as a series and so the gags come in a lot faster than the previous two films.
This film also leaves the sequence of events of the previous two films behind so the three films so far do not create a continuous story cannon so if you have not seen the other two films I would expect you to be able to easily pick up this film at face value, though there are a good many in jokes and running gags from the series so I would still recommend that a potential viewer who is new to the series should start with the original seasons.
As I gave Bender's Game a four and this being most definitely superior I am giving this a five, though there is still the chance that the next film could be even better. I will moderate my scores accordingly if that is the case.

  Good but not Great

The 3rd Futurama film is better than the second, but not as good as the first. Although very funny in parts this more than any of the others doesn't really work as a film. There's clear places where you'd expect an episode to end and because of this it just seems to drag.

Fun but still not great Futurama

I enjoyed Bender's Game but to be honest it felt like there just wasn't that many laughs to be had in this feature length episode. Thankfully they have made more time for Zoidberg this time round and he provides some good laughs, and Fry has taken a backseat for a change so no more pinning for Leela for now! And Professor Farnsworth is still as good as ever.

But overall I wasn't vastly impressed by the story it was ok but it was nothing great. Sadly with these feature length episodes they just haven't managed to capture the hilarity of the original series which is a shame. Ah well hopefully the last one coming up soon will be a better one.

When i saw the trailer i thought it looked shockingly bad but when i actually saw it i loved it!

Easily better than beast with a billion backs and easily tied with bender's big score for best futurama ever!!!!!

Easily worth what i paid for it!!
