Family Guy: Blue Harvest (A New Hope Episode IV): Special Edition

Family Guy takes the step further and has created an entire film only based on the first Star Wars film (Episode IV... what else!), and generally it is a pretty funny spoof.

It has many good ideas but the running time is way too short. They could have elaborated quite a bit and have got much more fun out of it. Much of the dialogue from the original Star Wars-film is repeated with some twists, and some of them ARE hilarious, but there is too far between the laughs.

"Blue Harvest" is a must for Family Guy-fans and is quite enjoyable, but it won't knock your socks off.

Note to this special edition. There is absolutely NO point in giving 15 GBP for the extra goods. It is a small t-shirt (though it says 'large'), some "Blue Harvest"-cards, a booklet and two pairs of 3D-glasses. The special features on the DVD are not interesting at all. The 20 minutes conversation between Seth MacFarlane and George Lucas is okay though, but nothing more.

There is a normal edition for a tenner tho.

The packaging is great from the embossed cover to the fold out insert with the disc, the compartment for the cards and 3D glasses and then the middle for the book and a rectangular block of a T-shirt. It feels special and like it's thought about....not just a regular plastic case in a card sleeve we keep getting.

The Easter Egg can be found by going left or right when you are selecting the Extra episode and the highlight switches to reveal bubbles by Peter's legs on the Graphic. This gives a clip of Script run throughs for the up coming Empire Strikes Back Family Guy... And yes they're also gonna do Jedi!!

Oh the Episode...strayed there for a minute...It is brilliant. The level of care and detail thats gone into it is excellent. We don't get daft names of Characters or stupid things like that, we literally have Star Wars condensed done by Family Guy. It's unfair to say it's a spoof. It's funny just seein who is who...check out the sand person and Greedo! brilliant. Also have a character spot when it's the Cantina bar scene!

They have been given the freedom to do everything right and have the actual film score to boot. All The sound effects are spot on too.

If you love Family Guy this is worth getting even if the episode may well appear on a series DVD. The T-shirt alone would set you back £12-15 and thats IF you can buy it separately.

In this case, it's Star Wars Episode Four that gets the treatment. Family Guy is no stranger to Star Wars references, but to many this may seem like overkill just a tad.

It's still really funny, although some jokes work better than others, and it should be a conversational piece for many Family Guy and Star Wars fans. It has recently been announced by Fox that these episodes will not be re-released in later box sets, so if you want to own them on DVD, it stops here.

I'm not entirely sure of the price jump from the standard edition to the embarrassing special edition of this - either way you merely get a double episode of Family Guy. Although admittedly, they're a pretty good and timeless couple of episodes. The simple fact is if you want Blue Harvest, buy it. Especially now that it's cheaper. I myself am a Family Guy fan, I thinks it's great (although I also agree with South Park), and even though this release is effectively a shameless cash-in, it is enjoyable enough that you just don't care.

The extras though are self-congratulatory gush and the girly Lucas butt-kissing from McFarlane disappoints to say the least.
