Enjoyable, but it won't knock your socks off

Family Guy takes the step further and has created an entire film only based on the first Star Wars film (Episode IV... what else!), and generally it is a pretty funny spoof.

It has many good ideas but the running time is way too short. They could have elaborated quite a bit and have got much more fun out of it. Much of the dialogue from the original Star Wars-film is repeated with some twists, and some of them ARE hilarious, but there is too far between the laughs.

"Blue Harvest" is a must for Family Guy-fans and is quite enjoyable, but it won't knock your socks off.

Note to this special edition. There is absolutely NO point in giving 15 GBP for the extra goods. It is a small t-shirt (though it says 'large'), some "Blue Harvest"-cards, a booklet and two pairs of 3D-glasses. The special features on the DVD are not interesting at all. The 20 minutes conversation between Seth MacFarlane and George Lucas is okay though, but nothing more.

The Special Edition of "Blue Harvest" is NOT worth an extra 15 GBP!

Family Guy is a really funny show, most of the time. It used to be that the show would cut away several times during any episode to random interchangable jokes that made people laugh as they were simply so random. The time has finally come that Family Guy throws out any pretense to having proper stories and just make entire episodes based around the random jokes. In this case, it's Star Wars Episode Four that gets the treatment. Family Guy is no stranger to Star Wars references, but to many this may seem like overkill just a tad.

It's still really funny, although some jokes work better than others, and it should be a conversational piece for many Family Guy and Star Wars fans. It has recently been announced by Fox that these episodes will not be re-released in later box sets, so if you want to own them on DVD, it stops here.

I'm not entirely sure of the price jump from the standard edition to the embarrassing special edition of this - either way you merely get a double episode of Family Guy. Although admittedly, they're a pretty good and timeless couple of episodes. The simple fact is if you want Blue Harvest, buy it. Especially now that it's cheaper. I myself am a Family Guy fan, I thinks it's great (although I also agree with South Park), and even though this release is effectively a shameless cash-in, it is enjoyable enough that you just don't care.

The extras though are self-congratulatory gush and the girly Lucas butt-kissing from McFarlane disappoints to say the least.

More of a homage than a spoof.

I have been waiting for this since November last year. I quickly bought the Special Edition, and when I got round to watching the episode I was disappointed.

This is supposed to be a spoof of Star Wars, when it's more of a homage. Scenes have been re-created wonderfully, but I wanted the FG team to make fun of Star Wars, and this rarely happens. Most of the humour is stale and predictable, and stretched out. I was watching the episode thinking "it'll get better", but it just doesn't.

The animation is wonderful, and like I mentioned before, A New Hope has been wonderfully recreated, so credit where credit's due. I don't know if it was just me, but I was expecting more.

The box itself is great... until you open the art cards and 3D glasses. They have a slot in which they're supposed to fit into, but they don't. Also, the box with the DVD inside keeps getting stuck on the outer cardboard box, creating a tear on the box which makes it harder to slot it back in.

Overall, a good episode. Not up to Family Guy's usual standards, but hopefully the next Star Wars "spoof" is better.

 Rahther good!

I'm not a family guy fan, so purchased this just because it was star wars related and was not disappointed.
the episode is great and has some very funny scenes taken from the scenes and the characters look very cool!
the items including the t-shirt are very cool, but the problem i have been having his with the packaging of the layout of the case itself, takes a few gentle pulls to get the main part from the sleeve, as it keeps catching the fold inside, plus as a previous reviewer as stated once you have opened the items inside its impossible to get them back in. i have therefore placed the dvd in a seperate single cd case, to protect the main case and sleeve.
OVERALL THIS IS VERY GOOD AND WOULD RECOMMEND TO STAR WARS FANS WHO DONT LIKE FAMILY GUY!!!

Such good Dvd (Janiss You idiot!!!)

consdiering i paid £18 for it, the packaging isnt great, once you've opened the cards and the glasses, they are a pain to get back in.

the dvd itself is fantastic, im never disapointed with family guy

another issue i have is that in the description it says there is an easter egg, i dont know if its just me, but i didnt get one. so dont expect a chocolatey delight when you buy this!

Soooo disappointed in this 'Special Edition'.. as I'm a huge Family Guy fan!!

There could have been much more in this offering -- where are Yoda and Jabba?.. they are perfect targets for send-ups!?

The most rib-tickling I got when watching all of this DVD were the Star-Wars-style intro writing (A long time ago...) with some racy comments; the 'intro to characters' scenes in the extras bit, with associated clips; and the Golf-putting scene commentary.

Apart from those, it was a very mediocre episode as, if you love Family Guy, then, for the most part, you can see the jokes coming a mile off.

As for the other bits.. the T-shirt was fab, but the 3D specs/scene, the cards, and the Art booklet were just 'ok'!

Next time, I'll be renting it first before I think of buying it, so I hope they do better on their next send-up.

I find your lack of laughs disturbing!

This was so-so, it was like watching a cartoon version of Star Wars scene for scene without the the big Family Guy laughs. There's enough to keep you going but It could have been a lot funnier.
