Deadpan hilarity and quirky charm come alive in Ghost Town, starring Britain's favourite comedian Ricky Gervais (The Office) as social reject Bertram Pincus. Emmy award winner and seven times Bafta winner Gervais proves his Hollywood worth in this transatlantic feel good love story about a man, a woman and a ghost.

Pincus is a New York City dentist with horrendous people skills. When a routine surgery goes awry, Pincus is pronounced dead, but is miraculously revived seven minutes later. The ill-mannered Manhattanite suffers only one lasting after-effect; the ability to see and speak with the dead. Word soon gets out in the spirit community and Pincus is irritated to discover he's the go-to-guy for every phantom with unfinished business in the city.

At the forefront of the ghostly mob is recently deceased Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear - Little Miss Sunshine, Baby Mama), who is determined to stop the remarriage of his widow, Gwen (Téa Leoni - Spanglish, Fun with Dick and Jane). The laughs unfold when the prickly and romantically inexperienced Pincus, smitten with Gwen, tries to woo her away from her betrothed - with hysterically awkward results.

With sharp performances and beautifully dry Gervais execution, Ghost Town won't fail to make viewers laugh out loud. With a host of special features including commentary from renowned director David Koepp and 'making Ghost Town', this is one DVD that should be in the collection of every Ricky Gervais fan.

 Poor Man's Sixth Sense

This film was barely watchable but i managed it. It was so slow you could fall asleep. If you like Ricky Gervais you may enjoy parts of this film but I expected more laughs out of this. Yes he demonstrates he is a competent actor but i wanted more. Any one else agree?

 Funny and moving

Really enjoyed this. Gervais' performanced demonstrates he's a highly capable leading man and has a grasp of what it takes to be both funny and moving in equal measure. Like David Brent and Andy Milman, the lead character, Bertram Pincus goes on a journey. In this case from misanthropic dentist to loveable benefactor. The denouement is truly heartwarming and there were moments nearing the conclusion of the movie when my eyes were swelling up which is testament to the screen presence of Ricky. Bring on 'This Side of The Truth'!

 Finally a pertinent question...

Original? Not particularly. Predictable? A little bit. Does it matter? Not at all?

Gervais dominates every scene; he delivers every line perfectly, his facial expressions (esp in the lift) are hilarious and as you realise his egocentric personality is just a way of hiding his feeling of utter desperation and loneliness, you forget that this could so easily have been a cheesy rom-com.

He starts the film with a personality which is, essentially, a cross between Melvin from as good as it gets and his own from the office. But he becomes a combination of insecure sweet, and genuinely funny.

While it may not be as funny as animals/politics, i would say there are moments in the film which he could put into his next stand up act (his comments on the chinese etc). Tea Leoni doesn't have much to do in the film, but what she does, she does well. She plays an intelligent, shrewd and individual woman, who doesn't fall into the annoying line of rom com females. Also Greg Kinnear is perfect as the pretentious, misogynistic and selfish husband.

This film is constantly hilarious. All the characters are brilliant and it is touching on so many levels. It is also a film which gets better every time you watch it, and while the premise of the story is based on ghosts, you'll realise this is nothing more than a motif for the 'dead souls' who are living in this world.

Really enjoyed this, I thought it was a nice little movie.
Very good story, funny and warm in parts.
Ricky Gervais was funny, but still very Ricky Gervais, which is the way I like him.
It was good to see Gervais's British shtick clash with American Movie norms.
Greg Kinnear was cool and breezy and Tea Leoni was excellent

 A slow heart warmers.

Started off slow, and regretably boring. However, it soon picked up, with Gervais playing a wonderful character most people could emphasis with.

A great heart warming comedy filled with decent jokes and the "right amount" of laughter.

It wasn't a film to just potray his comedy skills, with joke after joke and lacking in storyline, it was a pleasent and witty film of 2008.

I'd recommend this to any gervais fans :)
