I was a young boy in the 1980's and fell in love with the Star Wars films and Naria books. I have been finding it a little hard to see what all the fuss is with the Harry Potter films, but The Half Blood Prince has really got me hooked. Lord Voldemort and his dark army are in real force now and our much loved Professor Dumbledore meets his doom. Harry, Ron and Harmione must work as a team more then ever now with so much at state. Their hormones are all over place with lots of romance in the air. The Half Blood Prince ends on a fantastic cliff hanger and with the final war so close we could have a Harry Potter film that reaches the same epic heights as The Lord Of The Rings films! The Harry Potter books are better then the films so please can the last film be as great as it should be please!
I went to the premier of this on 4th July and oh my god wasn't it amazing! This film left me with my jaw wide open through out the film which deserves much more than 5 stars. It is much darker and the actors are now young adults whos acting skills have vastly improved. Lots of twists throughout and new characters introduced such as Blaze who's one of Malfoys new friends. Daniel Radcliffe exceeded my expectation and great acting from Helena Bonham Carter shes perfect for the character she plays and Tom Felton (Malfoy) is also given a larger role which portrays his character in both a good and bad light. Have to say there is a really annoying new girl actor in it (you'll spot her straight away) who wasn't needed. This is without a doubt the best film i have sat through this year and i think may be one of the best films ive EVER seen. Would 100% recommend to everyone. Can't wait to watch it again next week! 10/10
Like the 3rd installment this film tends to stretch away from the actual book - there are certain parts of the book that are I believe integral to the plot that are missing - there are also additional scenes not from the book that do not really make sense. The annoying character mentioned..is important to the film as it is a main part of the book..
Overall a better film - Jim Broadbent is excellent as is Michael Gambone - even Daniel Radcliffe's acting has improved (not by much though) Rupert Grint once again demonstrates some great character acting...
I was disapointed overall as the MAGIC from the book was missing and the film concentrated to much on the "love" aspect of it.
I hope the fact that the last book is to be split into two films means they can make sure they include ALL areas of the book - parts that are required to explain the story as this in my view failed.
Once again Harry Potter returns to fight the evil Voldemort - wuhuu(!) - and ONCE again it is just a childrens' movie with no interesting twists. I still love the many little gimmicks which Harry uses though.
Once again (again) the story is only for people who have read the books. I have never opened a Harry Potter book, and like "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" I had a very hard time follow what the heck was going on. Names, places and gadgets are mentioned without getting explored and I'm SO sick and tired of "book"-movies that doesn't reach out to everybody.
The acting is even worse. Daniel Radcliffe might be a chick magnet, but he sure as H*** can't act! His three face expressions (happy, scared and stone face) make Harry Potter an indifferent and dull character. Rupert Grint is not given much as the part of Ron. In this movie he is turned into a giggling clown which only appears to crack off one liners. Even brilliant and hgih class actor Alan Rickman doesn't give Snape much life in this film either - his stone face is meant to be mysterious and scary, but also Rickman isn't given much to work with and I just found his character annoying. They even screwed up the climax in the end, and I ended up just thinking "Hm, yeah whatever."
Once again I am not impressed with the new Harry Potter film, but it is still a lot better than the previous one, though "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" never gets as good as number three ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban") which in my opinion is still the best.
Fairly enough I need to say that the special effects are FANTASTIC and saves the films from being a turkey.
I really enjoyed this film because it dealt with the relationship aspect of the characters rather than focus on action sequences. I would happily sit through 5 hours of this film if the book was faithfully adapted. My only disappointment was the final battle scenes where you experience the full potential of the young wizards and witches but the film did not recreate this. Being the sixth book in a series of seven I felt like the Half Blood Prince is pretty much a filler anyway. Thankfully we are getting two films for the seventh book so the action or character development does not get sacrificed for the other.
