A demon, sent out to capture souls after midnight, sounds like any other horror story, and to some degree it is. Of course in this case it is brought bang up to date by requesting revenge over the internet. Following in the footsteps of the Death Note series, this animation is deliciously dark without relying on violence and gore to keep the viewer captured.
The idea itself is also based in the stereotypical voodoo (there is even a doll involved). Revenge is taken without getting your hands dirty, but there is always a price to pay. The stories are interesting as you learn how each victim is willing to give up their happiness in the afterlife to claim it in their current life.
Although this has only just been released here, Jigoku Shoujo is a few years old and this original series has spawned a second series (Jigoku Shoujo Futakamori), there will be and theird series and there is even a live action series. So, if you fall in love with this animation, not only will it not dissapoint there will also be more to come.
Revenge has never tasted sweeter...

if you're into seriously dark and moving anime, then I seriously recommend watching this, along the sinister lines of 'elfen lied' and sprinkles of the 'grudge' and a shaving of the 'ring' then u will seriously grow an appetite for this sweetly sick new series, top marks...
