- 30 minute 'Making Of' documentary
This BBC dramatisation of three of Elizabeth Gaskell's novels captures the small absurdities and tragedies in the lives of the people of Cranford, a small rural Cheshire town, inhabited largely by women.
This is a community that runs on cooperation and gossip, at the very heart of which are the daughters of the former rector: Miss Deborah Jenkyns and her sister Miss Matty. But domestic peace is constantly threatened in the form of financial disaster, imagined burglaries, tragic accidents, and the reapparance of long-lost relatives.

This was one of those rare occasions where script, direction and acting all come together to create something truly special. A friend described this series as 'enchanting' and I think that says it all.

This series will be spoken of in the same breath as the BBC 1995 version of "Pride & Prejudice".The language and the etiquette of the period are shown off beautifully in this brilliant drama. The line up of actors and the acting is quite superb. I would watch on Sunday night and then again the next Sunday afternoon. If you haven't seen it yet you are in for such a treat. I will be buying the DVD immediately it is on release.
