This was one of those rare occasions where script, direction and acting all come together to create something truly special. A friend described this series as 'enchanting' and I think that says it all.
Classic

This series will be spoken of in the same breath as the BBC 1995 version of "Pride & Prejudice".The language and the etiquette of the period are shown off beautifully in this brilliant drama. The line up of actors and the acting is quite superb. I would watch on Sunday night and then again the next Sunday afternoon. If you haven't seen it yet you are in for such a treat. I will be buying the DVD immediately it is on release.

Programs like these are the reason for the licence fee in this country.
The story, writing, acting, costumes and atmosphere created by the entire team has produced a series of unsurpassed joy. Over 5 short hours that your introduced to the characters you become drawn into the world and empathise with them every time the story takes a turn. There are moments of deep despair and heart wrenching sadness which are countered by the instances of sweetest happiness.
You will laugh,
you will cry,
it WILL leave you wanting more.
Watch It.

This is the BBC at its very best. A highly-talented cast - stunning locations and an excellent adaptation Elizabeth Gaskell's three novels.
If you like period drama, this is a must for your collection.
