My tape of this film has become too fragile to watch any more but I can now see it for the umpteenth time. It may be an amusing comedy about making an independent movie (and it is) but it is also, more fundamentally, about dreams. The main character's name is Nick Reve (French for dream) and we get to watch his battle to make his dream a reality, with all the frustration and occasional delight that goes along with that attempt. We are also shown the dreams of the other cast members and how they collide with each other.
The action centres on the several attempts to shoot three scenes and so we get the same few line of dialogue repeated over and over again: but, rather than being simply repetitive, each run-through provides a new joke and/or insight. The way that your perspective as a viewer is manipulated is simply wonderful. I won't mention the most audacious trick - you'll have to see the film.

It's the best film that DeCillo has made by far and all the cast give perfect performances (it's the only time Christine Keener's insecurity has been used to good effect) and it's the film that Terry Jones (of Monty Python) said he wished he'd directed.
