Closing The Ring is a touching tale of love, life and devastation, directed by Richard Attenborough and featuring Shirley MacLaine, Christopher Plummer, Pete Postlethwaite and Mischa Barton.
At the funeral of a former WWII veteran, the man's daughter, Marie (Neve Campbell), delivers the eulogy to a church full of veterans who knew and loved her father, whilst her mother, Ethel Ann (Shirley MacLaine), sits out on the church porch, smoking and nursing a hangover.
It quickly emerges that there is a lot Marie does not know about her mother's past and the true story of her life. Closing The Ring takes us back to a time when Ethel Ann was young, lively, and optimistic (Mischa Barton). She is in love with a young farmer, Teddy Gordon (Stephen Amell), who goes off to war with his best friends Jack (Gregory Smith) and Chuck (David Alpay), but not all of them make it back alive.
The plot lines intertwine with the story of a young Ulsterman in Belfast who finds a ring in the wreckage of a crashed B-17 and is determined to return it to the woman who once owned it.

I was dragged along to watch this for free shortly after it premiered in Belfast last year, both I and the people who persuaded me to go now regret the decision. It's hard to believe that the man who directed "Ghandi" was behind this fiasco! To summarise...The plots jumps around all over the place, Belfast looks nothing like Belfast(in any time period), the young actors cannot act to save their lives, Christopher Plummer and Shirley MacLain are totally wasted in this, the script is completely unconvincing, there was unnecessary nudity on Ms Barton's part, which will handicap the movie is getting daytime showings on TV, or gathering an older audience, the music was overblown and cloying. I could easily go on a lot longer. My advice is that there many other much better wartime romances out there already, and to avoid this movie.

Worst film I have ever seen - utter utter garbage. Like the previous reviewer I am also from Belfast and found the film not only was completely ignorant of the period it depicted but it relied on ill researched and patronisingly ignorant stereotypes it was shockingly awful. I was embarrassed that the \NI Film Commission put money into it - give me my taxes back! Wooden acting, laughable dialogue and looked cheap which was a major disappointment considering all the hype and publicity it got here in NI - big let down considering some of the names involved and deservedly flopped at box office. Not even worth a watch on freeview tv! Embarrassingly bad no doubt Mischa, Dickie et al will be wiping it from cv's ...
