The ancient and mysterious house of 'Mark's Priory' is the family seat of the Lebanon family. Lady Lebanon (Helen Haye) is desperate to have an heir to carry on the family name and has told her son, Lord William, (Marius Gording) that he must marry her niece, Isla Crane (Penelope Dudley-Ward). But Lord William has no intention of marrying, and Isla has fallen in love with a young architect who is working on the renovation of Mark's Priory. Lady Lebanon's desire to have the Lebanon name continue, along with her doctor's scheming intrigues, creates a crescendo of tension that only murder can release. But who is the homicidal maniac, and what sinister motives lurk beneath the servants' strange behaviour? As the police are
called in to investigate, the shadows of terror and death lurk in every corner of Mark's Priory.

AKA the red scarf murders is an intriguing story of love, madness and murder. This has to be one of the best gothic horror/murder mysteries ive seen to date. It's definately up there with the best.

Kings' use of sets which, aided by Hone Glendinning's noirish lighting, provides plenty of spooky atmosphere. Although a talkie, is filmed very much like a silent movie.

An over possessive mother in Lady Lebanon deplores with her son 'The Lord William Lebanon' to marry, keeping the Lebanon name going for another generation but why the urgency...? The mystery lies within the past.

This film has everything, strange butlers, a corrupt doctor, a gorgeous dame, a jealous husband, an outspoken chaffeur, a possessive mother & a bestranged son.

Superb performances from many of the cast make this one - not to be missed.
