On the whole this film is top class british film. Its got a really irie/clockwork orange feel to the film.It would of been abit better if the film went into more depth about why the young ganster was so envious of Freddie Mays. The ending is great and very poingant. With Malcom Mcdowell actually realising he has nothing after all thos years at the top of the tree whilst Mays was inside. Also a quick word on paul Bettany- He played the role well and considering he was lead role in the worst film of all time (Wimbeldon) he came across very edgy and crediable in this.Must buy and a good cult film

Gangster No.1 is hard to describe, its just great. It's one of those cult movies you just love, its cool and stylish in all ways. Malcolm McDowell plays the aging gangster/narrator well in this movie, and Paul Bettany plays the role of the young gangster brilliantly. The style and look Bettany brings to the role is incredible, he's an odd and sadictic character, yet you still like him. David Thewlis as Freddie Mays, the camp boss, The butcher of Mayfair is not to be missed. It's a brilliant performance by all the cast in a great movie. It's a must see British movie, one of the coolest gangster movies out there.
