Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars A Great Ending To The TV Series

Instinct | 9/3/2008 | See all Instinct's reviews (1) »

This film ended the SG-1 TV Serious Ori Storyline very well. Plenty of eye candy special effects and the same great cast from the series brings the storyline to a close. Personally I believe this film was better than the latest film 'Continuum'.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Brilliant

Im a big fan of stargate, ive seen all 10 seasons and all the current films, and for me this was better than 'continuum'.
I thought the scenes were brilliant but the story line did seem a little slow at points and the replicator part seemed like it was put in just to take up some time.

Customer rating: 2 out of 5 stars Disappointed

I love stargate, Ive been watching it since the first season. I was looking forward to watching this film, but when i did I was left very disappointed.
It did finish of the ori story. But it was poorly written, i think they could have done much better.
The film did have it's good points thou. I think if you are a true stargate fan then you must watch this film.

Well Nothing might be an exaggeration it's got some ok bits in it but to be honest I loved the series and was expecting this to be at least as good if not better but to be honest it really wasn't that amazing. For me it felt half done not really polished, the storyline wasn't as good as it should have been. In essence the peace keeper wars did a great job of rounding off farscape and the ark of truth did a really poor job of rounding off one of the best sci-fi series ever mad SG-1

I'm not going to go in to details on the plot because if you're an avid fan of the series I still recommend you buy it just to round off the story and I wouldn't want to spoil it for you but basically don't go in to it expecting too much just because it's a film rather than another episode or because it's the last SG-1 (well until Continuum or anything else that comes after)

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars good! but would of been better if i didn't read one of these

What can i say apart from Stargate SG1 was the best thing on TV for 10 years. The Ark Of Truth is not really a film its a long Stargate SG1 episode however i thought it was a ok overall, but i hope Stargate Continuum is better.

This Film was the best, it continued the story on from the series very well i have seen something like this before where it started as a series first but when turned into a film it was disappointing. Stargate: the ark of truth is amazing with special effects and all the enemies it's the best film i have seen so far this year i hope Stargate Continuum is even better than the ark of truth.

From Children of the Gods' first airing in '97 I was hooked on Stargate SG1. While dramatically removed from the universe that had been established in the preceding theatrical film, it was a stunningly imaginative series that overshadowed every other airing series at the time. As the years, and the seasons, passed ; the series seem to excel at updating itself and avoided becoming stagnant or stale at any point in it's long run, even managing to present some of it's all-time great episodes at points in it's production where both primary and regular supporting characters were missing or lost.

Even season nine's dramatic shift in direction, both from a character stand-point and series direction, felt like a natural step as opposed to an effect of necessity.

Right the way up to series ten's finale, 'Unending', you would have had to hold a gun to my head to have me say an ill word about the series.

And then it went 'ohhhh so wrong'.

From the release of the first trailers, something seemed seriously amiss with Ark of Truth. Nevertheless, I was naturally excited that my Stargate SG1 collection would once again increase and characters so familiar that they seemed like old friends would be returning to my TV screen for a new adventure.

As the release date edged closer and closer I became more an more excited. And, when the DVD was finally in my hands, I put off watching 'til I was able to actually retreat (phone off, etc) and enjoy it. An hour and a half later I came to the disheartening realisation that I actually HADN'T enjoyed it. Not even partially.

After mulling it over for a while, all I saw the film boasting was awkward scene progression, rushed story telling, bad attempts at building upon the series' dramatic themes, uncomfortable block-buster rip-offs and the return of drastically over-cooked foes.

From start to end, Arc of Truth felt like one long trailer for a longer story rather than the story itself.

Already pushed for time and clustered, the story brings back the replicators and uses up unavailable time in an unimaginative rehashing of story-lines already told, many times over. And, the sci-fi'd Frankenstein's Monster was actually frustrating.

The overly ambitious attempts at scope have the opposite effect and serve only to leave the film feeling rushed and under-developed, and the character focus abandoned - disappointing for a series that has excelled at character development and depth over the years.

By the time the far from unexpected return of a certain series ten character came about it was actually unwelcomed, and I was crying for something unpredictable, anything even mildly unexpected to happen.

A disappointing end to the Ori story arc and a disappointing beginning to a new format for SG1.

I sincerely hope Continuum has more to offer.

Stargate is one of the best TV shows, and the jump to the big screen made no difference. This film beats some big league films it is that good can't wait till Continuum comes out that will be even better than this film 9.5/10
