haven't bought it yet on DVD but it's gotta be my favourite film from when i was a kid!
A great cult classic and i find great fun with it's chessy lines and the look of it. a great film from a great time!
you can't get much better than a Duck who smokes, plays the guitar and saves the world from an alien warlord with a massive gun!
At Last on DVD been waiting for years

I still treasure my VHS copy of this. Interesting to see the reviews on here always give it 5 star or 1 star.
Compare it to its peers of the time - TMNT springs to mind - and as long as you realise they were having fun and you can have fun with them, then it is by far a more intelligent and funny film. Something for the kids and stuff for adults as well. Even the rubbish music is perfectly 80s.
And how could you not love a film with such cheesy lines as:
"I am one of the dark overlords of the universe!"
"That must be quite a responsibility"
{heading for a low bridge} "DUCK!"
"And proud of it!"
"We have a saying on our planet: if god had intended us to fly, he wouldn't have taken away our wings"
Not going to win any oscars for anything except the special effects, but proof that great fun can be had without taking yourself too seriously.
I personally think the reason people hate this so much is that at the time it was hyped so much and people wanted George Lucas to fail regardless of what he produced it would never live up to what people expected of him. And once you want/expect something to be bad it's impossible to get the joke.
Emma Thompson?

The actress mentioned in one of the the reviews above should be Lea Thompson, not Emma Thompson!
This movie is one of the worst ever committed to film, it hardly has ANY redeeming features at all! It's poorly scripted, acted and directed. The duck costume looks creepy and the voice of the actor playing the lead is grating. It's a travesty that Steve Gerber's excellent comic book creation should end up as this. Originally titled "Howard: A new breed of hero" when released in the UK, it would more fittingly have been re-titled "Howard The TURKEY"!
Still, it's a snip at £5.99 (or two for a tenner) !

I watched this at the cinema the first time round! I was a kid then and loved it. It wasn't like some of the other films that were around at the time but it was great! It certainly fits in with the kids films that are being produced now and I'd recommend it to anybody. Super family film! So glad it's out on DVD!
