The Stallone version was such a let down, so I watched this not expecting too much. Boy was I surprised. Suffice to say, as soon as it ended, I made a cup of coffee and watched it again.

BUY IT ..... give them a reason to film the follow ups. The dark judges are planned next.

OMG just doesn't do this justice

Awesome film - so dark, broody and simply not one for kiddies. I watched this and was completely blown away by Mr Urban as Dredd. I used to read 2000AD and always feared what a feature film would do to Dredd, but I was shocked at how good this film was. Great plot, great action...simply great. I just hope that they do another, and with some of the proper bad Judges.

I was really looking forward to this. In the end, the earlier Stallone movie was a better movie. Yes, really, which says a lot about how rubbish this one is. Now I'm old enough to be part of the generation who went out each week to buy the comic, so perhaps my expectations were raised. Nevertheless, this movie is forgettable and boring, and utterly utterly predictable. Years ago, Stallone's movie ruined Dredd by making him real and soft, this movie did this too, albeit to a lesser extent, and only near the end of the film, but it was an unnecessary betrayal of the character just to have a cinema audience leave with 'some' hope. Pity, but just a rubbish movie. But ... let me also finish with an unnecessary hopeful point: great casting as Dredd (even if the villain was a laughably prime exemplar for mis-casting).

  DREDD is AWESOME!

Finally a Dredd worthy of the name. This one makes the first attempt look like a feeble childrens tale.

  Better than I expected

This is much better than the Stallone version, but the storyline is too similar to The Raid and it isn't as intense as that action packed film.
Karl Urban does a good interpretation of Dredd and there are one or two twists in the story to keep it interesting, plus the music score is suitably dark and hypnotic.
One problem I have, the box says 2.35 widescreen, but it plays 1.85 on my screen. The same happened with Lockout also on the same label. Others plays right, but these don't seem to.

  Amazing

Amazing film, loved it! One or two hiccups in the film but was never going to be perfect. I would recommend it

we can finally put to bed the awful stallone version from the 90s, this is how dredd was meant to be. a no nonesense film that moves from word go. all action takes place in a locked down apartment block run by ma ma ( lena headey). dredd and his young female sidekick proceed to deliver justice as they fight to stay alive. fun and violent and highly recommended.

5 stars Movie - 1 star DVD product.

First of all the film is superb , one of my fav films of all time and bought the DVD on first day release.

I'm sorry though , no wonder this format is dying a death , you unwrap the plastic and eagerly open the case to find - what? - just a empty case with a disc stuck in it , the sort you get from the bargain bins and 2 pound films from 20 years ago , I had to have the volume set louder than any other film I have got and the ' special features ' are a joke , just a few interviews interspersed with scenes from the movie you have just watched , even then a lot of the stuff is repeated per interview with shocking editing between the interview scenes.

Everything about this product stunk ' cheapo ' which is a crying shame as this is a superb film and really should become a proper franchise.

The Dredd that the fanboys wanted ? Did they even read the comic ? they totaly changed his uniform, megacity, didn't even attempt to look futuristic, normal traffic ,kids on skateboards and the perps and citezens (which by the way was how the judges addressed people) just had normal clothes on !? so much American mother F and so on,2000ad had its own curse words to use .I was really looking forward to seeing this, after reading all the good reviews, but it seems that the reveiwers must have been on the production team as this was only slightly better than the Stallone effort (at least they got the basic look of Megacity and the characters right) !
