Behave citizens, the Judge is in the house, Judge Dredd and rookie Judge Anderson are trapped in Peach Trees, a 200 storey slum tower block ran by drugs lord Ma-Ma, she demands the building is sealed and the two judges killed.
To sum this movie up, it is a great, yet gory actioner, I didn't get to see this in 3d, but I wish I had. Karl Urban plays the part of Judge Dredd perfectly, he shows no emotion at all throughout the film, which is hard to uphold during a movie, the backing role of Judge Anderson (played by Olivia Thirlby) was also great.
Overall, gore, action, but quite a few pointless and unexplained kills, or I missed the explanation of the kills of random residents and the judges, Dredd and Anderson requested as back-up part way through the film, if you watch this, look out for the explanation of these kills, cos I sure didn't hear the reasoning, this is why I am giving this movie a 4. Great movie, would recommend to anyone.

  ROUGH JUSTICE!

At last fans of the 2000AD character can now wash the bad taste of the StalLone 1995 effort away. Karl Urban is awEsone as Dredd and the helmet stays on with only his chin visible to unleash his snarl. Urban is utterly conving as the ferocious lawman. This is a lean mean and breath takingly violent action film. The budget limitations this time work in favour of the film as it perfectly fits into it's future shock world gone bad. Bodies are skinned, heads explode, Bullets shred. This pummels the viewer in to submission and the results are spectacular. The story may be slight and comparrisons can be made to The Raid, but Dredd doesn't suffer at all. The visuals truly dazzle especially when showing off the rainbow haze of the drug Slo-Mo and the whole film is one of the best action films of the year. Dredd truly is a lean, mean adaption and makes some great judgement calls,
Justice has been served!
See If You Like......
The Raid.
Mad Max.
Hardware.
Blade Runner.
The Dark Knight Trilogy.
Total Recall (2012)
Robo Cop.
The Terminator.
Dirty Harry.

Very, very simple. No fat, no Hollywood. Absolutely nails it

Watching this film now feels like reading the comic strip did in my teens (progs 300-600 approx).

It's very, very simple. No fat, no Hollywood. I feel the same sense of wonder and awe now that I did back then.

For the record, the Stallone film wasn't so bad. It was a valid take from a certain point of view, jazzed up a bit to mainstream it out.

This new version cuts out all but the essentials and absolutely nails it. A fantastic experience. Well done!

It's violent though, parents be careful.

  Loved it!

Me and my friends really enjoyed this movie at the cinema. It's a lot darker and grittier than the cheesy Stallone film, and stays true to the comic as Dredd (Karl Urban) never removes his helmet. There are some brutal action scenes as Dredd brings justice to the criminals of Mega City. It's a shame it didn't do well at the box office, this was likely caused by lack of advertising. I don't have one bad thing to say about this movie.

  Dredd done right!

This is an absolutely uncomprimising vision of the futuristic Mega-City 1 and its relentless lawman Judge Dredd. The movie feels like a genuine breath of fresh air among the recent years comicbook movie boom. The straightforward plot and simple story gives Dredd a distinctly old school feel. Combined with Paul Leonard-Morgan's score my thoughts were drawn to such classics as Escape From New York.

Best of all though is Karl Urban. He nails Dredd perfectly and remains true to the character to the extent of not removing his helmet even once during the entire movie. Olivia Thirlby is superb as Judge Anderson, the conscience and heart to Dredd's stone cold lawman with Lena Headey delivering a formidable villain in the shape of Mama Madrigal, a ruthless drug lord threatening the entire city.

The only movie I saw twice in the cinema this year, I wholeheartedly recommend Dredd to any action / sci-fi fan.

  Dirty Harry is back (0:

If Dirty Harry lived in the future he would be Dredd. This film is genius, the best ive seen in years, cant wait for its release to see it again. Great story, great effects, great soundtrack, great cast. Urban is fantastic as dredd and gets the gravelling voice and aggressive chin perfect. Film is littered with great one liners such as "save me a lot of paperwork if you confessed right now" and "are you ready, you dont look ready" would make clint eastwood proud. The ladies hold up their side just as strong with Thirlby doing a superb job as Anderson and Headey as Ma Ma.
Buy it, its brilliant, its worth every penny, its up there with the greats like escape from new york and bladerunner.

The most under appreciated film this year.

It saddens just how badly this film done at the box office as it was by far my favourite film of the year.

A visually stunning piece of movie-making (and pretty violent at the same time).
