Disney's fantastical adventure Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved wizard character.

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking-that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity-and even a bit of wizardry-Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.

Top 100 Music Reviewer

For a film that could've been a huge mistake, this was surprisingly enjoyable.
A self-centred charlatan magician gets sucked up by a tornado and ends up in this fantasticly colourful land, soon approached by a friendly witch, then meeting other great characters and soon finding he is believed to the the great and powerful oz and the man to kill the wicked witch.
He soon becomes interested in the task at hand, finding affections he probably didn't realize he had.
I really liked the style some parts were done, such as the doll with a broken leg mirroring the girl near the beginning who begged him to fix her legs so she could walk, nicely done. It does get a little confusing for him and us,trying to figure out which witch is which, but it soon makes sense.
The final moments also very much mirror the earlier part of the film, skillfully so. So a film with a lot going for it,plenty of magical moments for all the family to enjoy, great colours and characters, good messages and a fine story that leads to the much loved story from years ago.
Although i wouldn't quite give it five stars,i can see why some would,as it looks great and entertains.
It takes you to another world for a couple of hours, now that's magic!
