Once Were Warriors

a brilliat film that might disturb some people but a real masterpiece all the same,cant see many people who buy this being disappointed.

I first watched Once Were Warriors at a film festival in New Zealand back in 2003. In a partitioned temporary cinema, the seats were full and I was as enthusiastic as many to see an NZ production. I am not ashamed to say that at I shed tears at times.
Disturbingly thought provoking stuff ...

proof that, whilst hollywood wastes millions churning out rubbish, there are some movies that get a huge thumbs up for their raw brilliance. this powerful gem is pure class and a must see. i would certainly recommend this as an eye-opening, gritty urban drama that shows the harshness of reality.

This film is by far one of the best I have ever seen. It was recomended to me by a work colleague. The story is dealt with very well, and it hits all of your emotions at once. I will definately be recomending to my friends and family.

This movie.....this movie is without doubt an absolute masterpiece. Once were Warriors hits hard both to the heart and mind. This was New Zealands most successful film before The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy but while Lord of the Rings was about a heroic tale about the battle between good and evil Once Were Warriors is an altogether different film about the reality of life and responsibility. Temeura Morrison gives one of the most evil and aggresive performance from any actor with his role as the brutish Jake "The Muss" Hecke. He will never have another role quite like it again I think.

This has been in my top 10 films for all time for a long time now and the more I watch it the more I appreciate it, not for its levels of violence but most especially for the perrformances from the female characters who you really have to feel sorry for, but I dont want to say anymore now as I might give away to much plot-wise but I can say this to anyone who really loves films and realistic acting performances that this is the film to get.

Oh yeah the sequel to this "What becomes of the Broken Hearted" is not as good as this but its interesting to see what happens to the family after "Once Were Warriors".

One of the best films you will watch. Does what all great stories should do, evokes powerful emotions in those watching it. Even if the emotion is hate for 'Big Jake'

Once were warriors is just a heart rendering film dealing with poverty and violence......... the acting is excellent its a must have dvd you have to watch this film.

It is one of the most powerful and moving films i have seen. A must see to watch and own.
