The A nightmare on Elm Street series is one of the most successful horror franchises ever made from the classic original to the under-rated New Nightmare, there have been some great entrys but also some plain old dull ones.
A Nightmare on Elm Street*****
The best of the series introducing us to the most iconic killer ever, freddy kruger, its highly original and was great for its time, loads of shocks and gore with some great performances and standout direction from Wes Craven.
Part 2**
The worst of the lot to be honest, the follow up to the first was a big let down with dull characters and story with a very homoeroctic undertone, a must miss for anyone.
Part 3****
After the lame Part 2, Wes Craven got back on board to create one of the most inventive and original movies of the lot, its scary, grusome and Freddy still has his fear factor, also with bringing back the character nancy and her dad it provided some link back to part one and created a must needed boost for the franchise.
Part 4 & 5***
These two entrys certaintly were not the worst in the series but Freddy seemed to have lost his scary side and became more of a joke, with some silly one-liners and terrible deaths these where the average Nightmare on Elm Street movies although they where good they did not live up to potential that was laid out earlier in part 3, good effort and still fun and enjoyable to watch.
Part 6*
What is there to say but 'AVOID', just awful, Freddy was done for until part 7.
Part 7; A New Nightmare*****
Wes Craven finally got back into the directors chair to prove Freddy was still the monster he created, but this time he's in the real world killing the actors who played the Characters on the A Nightmare on Elm Street films, this was a great move by Craven, bringing Freddy into our world, showing your not even safe when the camera has stopped rolling and making Freddy scary again, unfortuantly the movie was not well received probably because it was way ahead of its time. But still the best entry since Part 3.
Overall this is a fun entertaining boxset that will keep horror fans happy, some great movies in here with the odd one or two dull ones but still worth the watch, best ones, part 1,3 and 7.
