Mary Carter (Paulette Goddard - Cat and the Canary) inherits her family's ancestral home, located on a small island off Cuba, and, despite numerous warnings and death threats, she decides to take possession of the reputedly haunted castle.

She is joined by radio broadcaster Larry Lawrence Lawrence (Bob Hope) who believes to have killed a mobster, thus attending to flee to New York with his butler, Alex.

With assistance from Miss Carter, Lawrence soon defects from his original plan for a more spooky vacation on Black Island where all three enter an eerie castle as murder and mystery confronts them in this epic of a film.

As well as fighting off a menacing zombie, seeing a ghost of Mary's ancestors and finding the key to the castle's treasure, they're discovery is then interrupted by the sudden appearance of the guilty party who's warnings to this point, had failed.

Strong performances from Paulette Goddard, Bob Hope, and Richard Carlson contribute to yet another masterpiece of a film.
