Christopher Walken stars as high school teacher Johnny Smith, a car crash victim who emerges from a 5 year coma with the ability to see into people's future. Consequently this extra sensory perception enables Johnny to avert several potential disasters and earns him a degree of local celebrity. After his 5 missing years however Johnny has lost both his job and his fiancee and he longs for his former existence minus his new 'gift'. That is until he meets with local politicians and would-be Presidential candidate Greg Still son (Martin Sheen) and sees future-events of genuinely cataclysmic proportions. It is only then that Johnny must come to terms with his powers, his conscience, and his destiny...

Johnny Smith (Walken) has a unique gift in which he can see into the past and look into the future to which can be useful for those he comes into contact with. When young women are being brutally raped and murdered Johnny uses his amazing gift to track down the culprit. Excellent!

This film adaptation of a Stephen King's novel was a big hit worldwide and blasted director, David Cronenberg into the big time.
It's a story of one unlucky man who has the misfortune of being given one of the greatest gifts, to see the future. The gift can give you God-like power and puts you in a situation where you must be big decisions.
Christopher Walken delivers a knockout performance throughout, he's a likeable character who you can't help but feel for. He's believable in the role, he looks the part and plays it to perfection.
The writing is quite good but I do feel it's a flat. The story doesn't go as deep as I would've hoped, there's a lot of mini-elements but nothing really big which can be bitten onto. Charlie Sheen's character only turns nearer the end of the movie and is portrayed as one of the main characters. Perhaps if he was introduced into the movie a lot earlier, or if the crime story element had lasted longer it might've received 5/5 from me.

Overall: Dead Zone is a very entertaining movie, I felt no boredom whatsoever but a the end I still felt a little thirsty for more. The story could've went deeper and could've been a real massive hit.
Having said that, Dead Zone is still a great movie, it's one of those Stephen King novel's which just works brilliantly on the big screen.

"The ice is gonna break",he shouts at his employer.Calm up until that point. He needs to convince the man his son will die in a skating accident, that he s already seen in his mind.Great film, sombrely made with an uncomfortable portrayal of the ex school teacher by Christopher Walken.Cronenburg always makes you think ,that it could be happening now to someone like you.
