There are no more lawyers, no more trials, no more appeals. There is no need: Judge Dredd, the most legendary and feared of the Judges, is the judge, the jury and the executioner. He is the law! Dredd must face a new danger when the Law itself, corrupted from within, frames him for murder. With the help of Judge Hershey (Diane Lane) and small-time criminal Fergie (Rob Schneider), Dredd must battle his way out of trouble and save the city from his ruthless arch enemy Rico. With non-stop action and spectacular special effects, comes the Blockbuster film of the year.

Recent years have seen a great deal of well-produced, successful adaptations of well-known comic book characters. Back in the mid-nineties when Judge Dredd was released things were oh so different. Not that Stallone was necessarily THE worst choice to play Dredd, just that with all his shouting 'I AM der law!' and the unforgivable decision for him to remove his helmet you can't help feeling that there's a much, much better film in here somewhere. Moderate effects fail to hide a film that totally fails to do justice to the classic 2000AD character. Must try harder...

 Not for serious people.

I had this movie on VHS and I loved it. I've seen this movie billion's of time's on TV, suddenly I thought why don't I get it on dvd. The casting of Sylvester Stallone and Armand Assante as brother's is a somewhat good maneuver as they do look simular. When the movie came out the fan's of the comic were in uproar about the scene where he reveal's his face, in the comic he never did. I love the whole idea of a Judge. Diane Lane is simply gorgeous.

This movie may not have been as violent as the comics but its still a very cool film, a Stallone classic! The casting is perfect when you think about it, no one else looks more like dredd! The film has a good Sci-Fi story with great visual effects and the costumes and vehicles are fantastic! A must own for any Stallone fan or anyone who loves a classic 90's retro action film, a gem now I say and worth the cheap price!

I have never read the comics so I couldn't judge this on how faithful it was to the original material but I have to admit I really enjoyed this. Don't get me wrong there is pretty much no originality here, as it borrows from many films, Blade Runner, Demolition Man and Superman 2 to name a few but it really doesn;t make much difference. Its one of those action films that knows its cheesy and doesn't really care. I find it hard that anybody wouldn't enjoy this film. Sit back, give your brain a break and ENJOY!

In 1995 the film had 2000AD fans attacking it like rabid dogs. I used to read the exploits of Dredd in the comic as a kid, so after hearing the sacralidge the fan boys were screaming, I expected this to be pathetic. To be honest I really enjoyed it. The thing with the film is it was made way too early, and the Judge Dredd chatacter was never that popular with the U.S. market, so in a way this big budget extravaganza was cursed from day one. Stallone as Dredd is suprisingley good, and the square jaw jutting below the helmet realy does capture the essence of the comics. But then the helmet comes off and this turns out to be just a normal Stallone action movie. It's good to see that alot of the characters turn up in the film, but that also is a problem as what were major characters in the comics are killed off pretty quick, so they act alike camio's. The Megga city sky line is amazing, even out doing Blade Runner of it's future landscape. Also the creation of the War-Bot is outstanding. With all these good points it's hard to dislike the film.
But there is one massive stumbleing block and that come in the form of Rob Schneider this so called funny man irritates and becomes tiresome very early on in the film, I would have thought Sly would have learned his lesson having already starred with him in Demolition Man.
This film is not a classic comic book to film adaption by any means,
But if you try and forget about it's comic book origins, and take it as a Sci-Fi action film, it is still pretty entertaining.
Now in the Post Matrix world it's time they remade this cult character and gave the Judge some justice!
