- Brand new 30 minute documentary detailing the Montreux story - with new interviews with Chris Layton, Tommy Shannon, Jackson Browne and John Mayer
Three years is a long time in the music industry, as these incredible concerts indefatigably prove. The first takes place in 1982. A young bluseman takes to the stage at the Montreux Festival, ably backed by a highly competent band. The cynical crowd doesn't take kindly to the virtuoso skills presented for their listening pleasure, and the beleaguered future star is booed and heckled throughout. Fortunately the worldly wise figure of Jackson Browne has his head turned at the concert, and proceeds to offer the flowering talents of Stevie Ray Vaughan some precious studio time. Fast forward three years to 1985, and Vaughan returns to the festival. Now the headline act, the ultimate vindication for Stevie is provided by a crowd which hangs on his every movement. Both concerts are presenting here, offering a tremendous way to experience Vaughan's music and rise to fame, as well as offering precious hope for any aspiring artists who meets with a frosty reception from a hostile crowd.

Stevie is on form here and its worth getting just to hear the crowd boo him in 1982, but his playing is too frantic and hasnt matured into what can been seen on the second gig from Live in Austin.
The 1985 concert is fantastic, but spoiled a little for me by my owning the Live Alive cd, which is highlights of the same concert.

This was the first concert stevie had played outside the states, the crowd at montreux were more use to folky blues than stevies flambouyant, flash style and in some of the tracks you can even hear booing.
However in the second DVD, the crowd was a world apart and stevie by then was the guitar hero from AUSTIN, TX,
and his playing was more soulful on AINT GONE N GIVE UP ON LOVE, but still had the flash hendrixy style on SAY WHAT. TIN PAN ALLEY I must confess is my favourite blues track on this double DVD and when he plays every sweat dripped note, you know it is coming from deep within stevie, rock on and buy this DVD, you wont regret it i assure you.
