I have made many speculations over it's ability to surpass the original but i can't be certain, but overall this is an amazing sequel, ten times more action than the first and the special effects certainly have improved, if your a fan of the first then you should give it a go, others seem to prefer the first. The first is better for story and the second is better for action.
Worth watching

This film is very complicated (much more than the first one) using stupidly long words and and ridiculous speeches.
However this aside it is worth watching purely for the action. A phenomenal fight between Neo and hundreds of Agent Smiths is just one part of the action with a highway chase which will rival any other.
Plot wise this film is awful but just for the action it is one of the best. Don't watch this film with a good story in mind, its action time.
It had a hard act to follow

This film got a lot of bad press, and negative reviews - however i think thats mainly becuase it had such a hard act to follow, in the first film.
It elaberates the storylines a bit more, but goes a bit over the top with all the long words and mixed metaphors... and whats with all the dodgy s & m gear??
The freeway chase however, as its predecessor, sets a new standard for action films.
At the time, it was the most expensive, most eleberate chase sequence ever made - and is worth a watch for that alone (just make sure you have the surround sound turned up)
A great film, though nowhere near as good as the first.
