Elizabeth (1998) :Now close to death, Queen Mary I (Kathy Burke) steps up her policy of Protestant repression. Even Princess Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett), her younger sister and her heir apparent is in grave danger, but Mary's last ditch to execute her for treason fails. Within days, Mary is dead and Elizabeth is crowned Queen of England, but with enemies and rebellion continuing in her own council she is advised to hit back. She retaliated in a counter-coup of immense ferocity, wiping out all opposition to her leadership. Her throne is finally secure.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) : Elizabeth: The Golden Age tells the thrilling tale of an era - the story of one woman's crusade to control love, crush enemies and secure her position as a beloved icon of the western world. As Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart conspires with Philip of Spain to topple the throne, Sir Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth's trusty advisor works tirelessly to protect her from the many plots and conspiracies against her. Preparing to go to war to defend her empire, Elizabeth struggles to balance royal duties with an unexpected vulnerability in her attraction to Sir Walter Raleigh.

Great Films But The Package Is Not As Pictured

Great films, but just for info, the DVD I received was not the 'boxset' style as pictured but the budget style single DVD case with two splitscreen title pictures.

 Very Entertaining

I love my historical fact/fiction type of books and movies, so this screamed at me to be purchased. These types of films do not always work well on the big screen and are often better as a TV series. However I watched these 2 back to back and enjoyed every minute. Good mainly British cast, good sets and good pace. Not sure quite how accurate these were historically, especially Elizabeth's relationship with Drake, but that did not really matter. All in all, very entertaining

 Amazing

Both of these movies are simply amazing. Cate Blanchett as Elizabeth is just brilliant. You can see her talent in every scene she is in. Some of the historical facts are changed but it's quite common in a production of such movies. If you are a person that likes to watch costume movies or loves Tudor times, or both, you will not be disappointed.
PLEASE DO NOT be fooled by the review of MrsClaws. There is no mistake in the continuity of historical events. In the first movie, 'Elizabeth', the person that was murdered was NOT Mary Queen of Scots but her mother Mary of Guise.

 Specials? Subtitles?

Can anyone share some info about the content of the package: dvd boxes? specials for each movie? subtitles? etc... Thanks.
