Hollywood Legend, and legendary singer, Doris Day, stepped out for her last major television "Spectacular" with "Doris Day Today". And oh dear me, she really should not have done.
The way this lady packed out cinemas, and sold millions of recordings, (and still does!), was spectacular. Because Doris Day belongs in movies and on records. The highly successful "Doris Day Show" which ran for 5yrs, to a massive U.S. audience, worked because she played strictly for comedy. But the two television "specials" really look like a poor scripted amateur's attempts to show Doris Day doing what she does best. And as we know what she does best is anything but silly sketches interrupted by some fine, not perfect, but fine singing.
The "Doris Day Special" with Doris and Perry Como, was a few years prior to this one, and as cringing as some of that was, it is miles ahead, if for nothing but the sound of two beautiful singers of the same genre, doing what THEY did best.

John Denver sparkles in this compilation, but even he looks a bit out of place at times.
I am an ABSOLUTE Doris Day fan, and feel somewhat saddened to write a review that is not favourable, but we can be fans and still criticise.
But when I put the DVD back in it's box, and into a drawer, I knew I would never watch this mish-mash of nonsense ever again.
