The Counterfeiters is the incredible true story of the largest counterfeiters operation in history, set up by the Nazis in 1936.
Salomon "Sally" Sorowitsch is the king of counterfeiters. He lives a bourgeios life of cards, booze and women. Suddenly his luck runs out when he's arrested and thrown into a Nazi concentration camp. His exceptional skills are spotted and he is forced to help the nazis in an organized counterfeit operation set up to help finance the war effort and flood the British and American economies with fake currency.
Faced with a moral dilemma, Salomon must decide whether his actions, which could prolong the war and risk the lives of fellow prisoners, are ultimately the right ones.

I would like to start by saying that this has not been done before. All of the other movies on the holocaust have been about the concentration camps and how bad they were. The counterfeiters, however, is about one man who has been offered a deal; to forge money and survive or to die at the hands of the nazi's. The Movie is a master piece and defintley deserves to be bought on dvd. This is a movie about the Jews like no other. Everything about it is absolutey amazing. *****

must-see movie, I absolutely recommend it, especially if you are interested in movies about the Holocaust. I really enjoyed watching it, so I am glad that this one caught me. The story, plot, actors, everything had depth and class. It was all very harmonious.
Great casting work: Karl Markovics has always been an excellent actor and also here he once again proves his great acting abilities. But of course also all other actors did a great job.
Well worthy of its Oscar win!!
Excellent

I can't believe the first reviewer only gave this film 1 star. This is a fantastic film - and it deserved more Oscars in my opinion. I watched it last night and was spell-bound. It makes a change from all the usual hollywood rubbish.
