American Gangster

This film was seriously unbelievably good, It is quite unfair to compare this film to the classics such as Scarface, Godfather and Goodfellas. This film was excellent in its own right, Denzel's best performance yet and if we keep comparing it this film will never be fully appreciated.

Bottom Line, excellent, great performance, great story and some very powerful scenes! A must buy for 2008 guarenteed!

I very much enjoyed watching American Gangster, as the world in which Frank Lucas has created is very intriguing. With some excellent performances from Denzel and Russel Crowe, you'll find even though it may be a heavy film at times, its pretty easy to watch.
Although it is long (2 hours 30 mins), it manages to achieve a solid plot and a good ending, tied together with an insight into 60s and 70s corruption and the war on drugs.

Movie was ok, seem to have bits of Goodfellas, Blow and other Gangster movie and Cop movie clichés.
Maybe there have been too many Gangster movies made, but I think it's more to do with the story.
It just lame and then the ending is too quick.
Russell Crowe was good as was Josh Brolin, but Denzel Washington played the Gangster as tho he was a saint,
Although in real life he wasn't, he was a very nasty piece of work.
The whole True Story thing wasn't true either .Anyway Disappointed, not recommended.
Instead watch Goodfells, Godfather, Casino, The untouchables, Donnie Brasco, Scarface, Blow, Carlitos Way,

Sheer brilliance! Amazing performances by Crowe and Washington make this the film of 2007!

the film was extraordinary all the way through, one thing that let it down was lenth of the film, it was bit too long, but it shocked me it was base on true story, staring russel crow and denzel washington they both worked well in the film, acting was brill, camera work effective, addictive all the way through, well worth the buy if you wanna know how 1st black gangster become the richest drug baron known in USA history
