Comment:Genuine UK Region 2 DVD

Malcolm McDowell provides the original idea for and stars as wide-eyed innocent (not for long) Mick Travis in Lindsay Anderson's epic comedy O Lucky Man! Armed with ambition and a work ethic, coffee salesman Mick hits the road and finds that desire alone can't bring wealth and status. He meets rich and poor alike... and finds cunning and cruelty across the social spectrum. Ralph Richardson, Helen Mirren, Arthur Lowe, Rachel Roberts, Mona Washbourne and other stars in multiple roles knit Mick's picaresque adventures together. And commenting with wit and irony is Alan Price, providing a memorable song score. Once you meet Mick, you're the lucky one.
  • Commentary from Malcolm McDowell, David Sherwin (writer) and Alan Price (score composer)
  • A feature-length documentary O Lucky Malcolm
  • A biography of Malcolm McDowell

The ups and downs of a young salesman who goes through cycles of good luck and bad is a bold and subversive piece of film-making, a worthy successor to 'if...' with McDowell the perfect Everyman. He stumbles wide-eyed into all sorts of situations and Anderson chronicles it all with a beady and confident eye. Surprisingly epic, and often very funny, it also serves as a fascinating document of what life was like in Britain in the early 70s.

If you like films with ACTION, EXPLOSIONS, NAKED WOMEN, AND DRUGS this is the film for you. If you like films which make a serious comment upon the sometimes futile element of the human condition then this is a film for you. I feel that I lost a few at the last sentance. If you like a fast flowing, easy to understand plot, then this might not be the film for you. But if you like British Cinema at its best, when a film can actually make an impact rather than just pass the time until we die, then this might be the film for you.

 Maybe I didn't understand it...

I'm 22 years old, maybe this film just isn't for my generation. Malcolm McDowell was good though
