As someone who had been waiting for ages for this to finally get released, I have to say having watched it through twice now the experience was somewhat underwhelming. The CG is certainly done very well, and in a lot of places looks spectacular, but the story is a bit dull and the dialogue quite stilted and unnatural. I'm sure this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that you can't listen to the original Japanese language track - just the English dub - which I can't understand why and definitely detracts massively from the release. If they'd included that I'd have given the film an extra star at least, but as it is you're better off renting this than buying it.
Fantastic, with one flaw..

I watched the first Appleseed movie, the cg one, and loved it. When i heard abouth Ex i could'nt wait! So i pre-ordered without thinking much more about it. I loved the movie, but the lack of japanese voices was a huge let-down. It actually ruined the movie somewhat for me. The english voices made everything so american and dull that it just got boring to watch..
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Just Like The First Movie!

I bought this latest instalment of the Appleseed series almost right away after it was released at the same time as I bought the First Appleseed movie and I can tell you now, I was just as blown away by this movie as much as what I was with the first one! It's just THE definition of complete and utter CICI/anime cooless from the word go and you won't be dissappointed whatsoever! Huge fans of the first movie like myself are in for an even bigger treat with this next one! You must must MUST buy and watch this if the last thing you do! :D
Beautiful

For those of you who were a fan of the original Appleseed movie this is a must see.
The animation has really been pushed to it's limits with increased sence of a characters 'weight' though improved physics and better facial animation too. This really shows in the numerous fight scenes throughout the film and with a producer like John Woo I don't have to explain how good these are. The whole film is just simply stunning. However they have decided to go with a slightly more realistic look which may put some people off, but personaliy I love and think that it is a real improvement that makes you feel more for the characters, and the toon-shading is still in place giving the film that characteristic 'Appleseed look'.
Storywise I was slightly disapointed (hence the four stars) and I much prefer the story to the first Appleseed from 2004 which I think was easier to follow. I enjoyed the first half of Ex Machina yet then found myself wandering off a little and only really kept watching for the beautiful animation and those 'cool' moments. I think prehaps on a second watch-through I may enjoy it more and understand the full concept.
As a package product this is brilliant, it comes with a small poster of the three main characters and a short Appleseed Manga by Shirow Masamune himself titled Called Game. The extras are also worthy of watching for anybody interested in animation or just more about the films process.
Overall brilliant, just a shame that the story didn't grab more of my attension.
Also, loving Hitomi's new look :)
Incredible

This release does not include a Japanese language track. Probably called "Collector's" edition because you have to buy another version just to get the original language track. You have been warned.
Appleseed is a glorious looking work of art; it's done in CG but still tries to keep looking like an animated comic. Its Produced by John Woo and Directed by Shinji Aramaki and if you know your Manga you can guess that this is a winning combination. I wont go on about the plot or scenes, ill just say that if you enjoyed the first Appleseed then you will enjoy this one.
Setting the bar even higher.

Definately a top notch Anime that delivers a bit of everything this is truly a grown up movie.
The storyline is far better in this one than the 2004 version in my opinion and the filming style is great.
You WILL be blown away!

Amazing film! You won't be disappointed with this. The film is one of the most spectacular and is worth the price on play.
A simple story, told with great imagination.

The story is very basic and almost cliche but the presentation is out of this world. Exciting music, battles and outstanding CG. Worth the money just for the experience alone and worthy of being apart of the Appleseed universe.
