Absolute classic! what a film, from the amazingly shocking to hillarious, this movie has moments that trigger every emotion. The story is superb and the ending is up there with the best. Go into this film without review bias or knowledge beyond the synopsis and you will find a really gem of a story.
MUST SEE!!

what a superb film. it's like nothing that i have ever seen before. in park chan-wook's films, no subject is ever taboo. do not watch if you are easily offended or shocked. my missus had to walk out of the room (but she's a softy. she went to see Se7en at the cinema, took one look at the fat guy sat in spaghetti sauce and left). the twist near the end where everything is revealed, left me sat in my armchair, open mouthed. superb acting and a great score add to the viewing pleasure. one of the best films i've seen in a while and fully merits it's 5 star rating.

When I bought this movie, I thought I was getting a simple revenge story.
Perhaps at it's most basic level it is, but it also is much more than that.

I wouldn't call this a horror movie by any stretch of the imagination, although there are several scenes that will make you cringe.

The plot is both straight forward and complicated at the same time, mostly coming from the fact that you are kept guessing until later in the movie. (Not gonna spoil anything here)

Simply put, the story is incredibly strong, emotional, disturbing and at times very funny.
The fight scenes are incredibly well done and the acting as well as directing is top notch.

Without a doubt it deserves a place in any movie collection.

Just as the title says, this is a modern day classic.

Hands down, one of the greatest films I have EVER seen.

Incredible build up to the twist at the end which is just horrific and emotional at the same time.

Choi Min-Sik is amazing in this. He delivers one of the greatest performances you are ever likely to see from ANY actor.

Why you haven't bought this already is a crime...

First off, this movie is out there. If you find a Hollywood horror tough, forget about this. It is mad, but clearly with method in it, and a lot of class. It is very intelligent as well as deranged, and moving as well as horrifying. The plot is brilliant, it doesn't let you down either after so much build up, and the music is wonderful, really raising the level of drama. This isn't some petty gore movie or something freakish just for the sake of it. This has feeling and thought behind it, and the two antagonists are vile and yet not without sympathy. They are never apologised for, just explained. I wouldn't call this a horror movie, but it is horrifying at times, yet can be funny and moving too. An intense and dynamic movie, but very tough to watch. It is worth it though.

the most eagerly anticipated film ever to come out of the far east certainly does not disappoint. a fantastic, black humoured account of an ordinary man trying to discover why he's been kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years. cracking storyline, quality fight scenes and more twists and turns than a slalom ski slope.
there is no other film like this, it has to be seen to be believed.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Superb entertainment - A MUST SEE!

Wow - what a wonderful film - really blew me away, from the very beginning this takes you on a two hour roller coaster ride of discovery. After spending fifteen years in a prison with only tv to keep him in touch with the world - a man we sympathise with is released back into society with many questions he needs answered, this multi layered story unfolds into a true classic which will stay with you long after viewing.Highly recommended - One you must have in your collection - Must be off now to buy the other two dvd's in this great trilogy.

Oldboy is, quite simply, a work of art, a masterpiece, an instant classic, a touch of pure genius. I'd heard a lot about the film pre-release (mainly from Tarantino) and was eagerly anticipating the DVD having already enjoyed 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' at an earlier date. Even then Chan-wook Park's film simply blew me away. Brilliantly acted, written and directed and both poignant, shocking and dark-humoured all in one Oldboy was EASILY the best film of 2003 and sits firmly in my list of Top 5 movies of all time. I URGE you to see this film, there really is no excuse not to...you'd be a fool to miss out....
