Alien proves that a successful Sci-Fi or Horror doesnt need to be about full on action, CGI effects or gore. Alien builds up the suspense. The ships crew are average people that seem very Human. HR Gigers sets are also well worked and iconic. As expected some scenes look a little dated but Alien will have you on the edge of your seat throughout. Classic!

Fantastic, suspenseful, brilliant entertainment. Best Scifi film made... yet.
Ridley Scott's finest hour - although Blade Runner and Gladiator etc. are of course exceedingly fine movies too!

The crew of seven people (5 men and 2 women) of a Space Ship are brought out of hypersleep in responce to a call for help from a unknown planet. The crew land the ship and three crew members set out on foot to find the location of the destress call. What they find what looks like a Space Ship more Alien as anything they have ever seen. setting foot inside one of the crew finds a room below the ship filled with eggs. One open and something jumps on to his face and puts him into a coma. The two crew member return to their ship with their fallen crewnember and unwanted passanger, a few hours later the facehugger falls away his face and he wakes up. With the plant and Alein Ship behind them the crew think the worse is over but the horror is just begining and soon none of them are safe.

With a prequel to Alien due out next year, if you have not seen any Alien films before. Start with this one and let the sleeplees nights start.

From watching the film, you have no complaints. amazing storyline, original and superb acting. What is really surprising is that this movie could have been filmed only a few years back as it is ageless in terms of special effects. The aliens are as convincing and as well made as Alien Vs Predator, the only thing that gives it away as late 70s is the hairstyles and the computer screens through out the film. Sigourney Weaver sets the benchmark very high in this start to the alien franchise. THRILLING!

All time classic sci-fi horror that stands the test of time extremely well, I watched only a few days ago and never once did it occur to me that I was watching a film made more than 30 years ago...

Excellent and original story that has been copied or mimicked many times since and is a must see for any sci-fi or horror fans!

It took me years to see this but when i did i was very impressed by what was on show and considering it was 1979. Ridley Scotts best movie......maybe and for me one of the greatest films of all time. Sigourney Weaver was awesome as Ripley and the rest of the cast delivered good performances too. It will have you on the edge of your seat and will lap up every minute. Enjoy

Okay, so I used to think that Aliens (part 2) was better then this one, though now I'm starting to think that they are both as good as each other!

  Almost good as new.

Enjoyed the film, watched it for the FIRST time in 2009, so maybe am not able to fully appreciate the effects and technology.
But did try and put myself in the position of a viewer from 1979, and was impressed.
Story was nice and tight, performances were good, direction was suberb.
