Lt. Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the lone survivor when her crippled spaceship crash lands on Fiorina 161, a bleak wasteland inhabited by former inmates of the planet's maximum security prison. Ripley's fears that an Alien was aboard her craft are confirmed when the mutilated bodies of ex-cons begin to mount. Without weapons or modern technology of any kind, Ripley must lead the men into battle against the terrifying creature. And soon she discovers a horrifying fact about her link with the Alien, a realisation that may compel Ripley to try destroying not only the horrific creature, but herself as well.

The colour saturation of all the primary colours in this film was just a huge strain to put up with for two hours and Fincher tends to do this alot to his films..Se7en for example (which was good by the way) but this film was bad from the off....over the top English accents complete with unnecessary use of swearing....now I dont object to swearing in a movie but this was sounding like a belligerent ten year old had written it ...All this is before I mention the shoddy effects and bad acting and gapping holes in the story line...at least Fincher redeemed himself later on with Se7en and the excellent Fight club.

 "..FANTASTIC SCI-FI.."

Yet again the third movie in the series adds more originality to the popular growing franchise, this movie is more gritty and has a darker tone than the others and adds something new to the series with a hybrid Alien, the cast is great, the story is very good and the movie has a fantastic ending, not as thrilling as the ending to Aliens but is still pretty cool. If youre a massive sci-fi fan than this is a must.

In Europa ALIEN 3 is released both as a theatrical and a special edition. The theatrical was a bit disappointing, and lacked a lot of excitement, blood and horror, which the Special Edition truly compensates for. Here many scenes are different, and the entire movie is SO much bloodier. A LOT of the scenes are extended, some are different from the theatrical release, and there is a much better story telling. The special edition is about 30 minutes longer than the first release.

This release: It lacks good story telling, many of the characters are hollow and you don't give a damn if they get sliced and diced by the aliens. It is still claustrophobic and a feeling which gets to you, but I would at any time recommend the special edition, which is also available on Play.com

Both editions: The visuals are stunning, dark and claustrophobic. Sometimes when you follow the camera around you really ARE afraid of turning at the next corner. The action is top class, and I think it's bad that ALIEN 3 is so underrated, because it's really a blast! The acting is, once again, great. Charles S. Dutton is a stand out as the convict/preacher Dillon. His last stand with the alien in the end, is one of the most intense and emotionally best scenes in the entire movie.

So, if you can get your hands on the Special Edition of ALIEN 3, then do yourself a favor and give it another chance; It really is MUCH more recommendable than this theatrical release.

 Over time,this has actually improved!!!!

David Fincher's view on the Alien franchise took a different turn and when originally released it took some big knocks.....through time though it has become a commercial success and more importantly nows shows the directors flair. He uses dark, broody filters and colours, odd camera angles/pans and POV's to create his own universe for the characters to interact in.This is a very strong, not classic, but strong film in the legendary series which seriously demands viewing to show and tell its story.I rate this highly for all the above because for me,now,it works.

 Pretty decent sequel

The weaker of the Alien movies (AvP notwithstanding) but I still enjoyed it.

Fincher provides some nice visual flourishes.
