I remember this show very fondly from when i was a kid, but i hadn't seen it for years. I must admit i was surprised how much i loved it when i was watching it again. There is so much rubbish on TV it was refreshing to watch something of this quality. Ok, people may argue that it's dated, and that the shows premise is that it's a lampoon on dirty harry. However this is a good thing: think DCI Hunt from 'life on mars'; he's a throwback- thats why it's so good in this seasonless PC world we live in. I want my TV heroes to be: a misogynist; a nihilist, and a bit nuts: it's a hell of a lot more entertaining!
You can appreate it on a more intellectual level as well. Obviously the show is making fun of hypermasculity, and this a good contrast to what is going on now. There are plenting of allusions/ references on the show to keep you stimulated as well. E.G. Hammer tells Doreau he's taking philosophy classes, and she asks what he's studying. Kierkegaard? Spinoza? The writing is usually fantastic (though sometimes they rely too much on catchphrases), and the comedic acting of Rache and Harrison is so good i couldn't image anyone else coming close.
I'll stop here because i gould go on all day. To sum up, it's my fav show of all time. If you like: Get smart, the simpsons, futurama, police squad etc chances are you'll like this.
