A group of refugees take shelter in the forest to escape persecution by the Nazis. This is a hard hitting film based on a true story. Whilst it might not be the best war film made and the film may have a few critics its a grim reminder of the terrible events of the past. Tragic yet also inspiring!

just get it you will like it 5*

Fresh off success of his first two Bond appearances Daniel Craig stars in this movie which shows the epic struggle a tribe of Jews went through to survive the German onslaught. Craig plays the oldest of the three brothers Tuvia who leads the couragious mission to survival with Zus (Liev Schrieber) and Asael Bielski (Jamie Bell). Shot in some great locations and supported by a great plot which made this such a great film to watch. Enjoy

  Great War Flick

Although one may say this is more of a war drama than an out and out action film it is still arguably one of the best war movies since Saving Private Ryan. It centres around a group of fleeing Jewish Russians whose main objective is simply to stay alive. Occasionally a conflict within the group leads to some quite gripping action sequences It's gritty, realistic, there is some excellent action with James Bond putting in a superb performance. It resists the temptation to over egg the pudding by delivering moral high ground speeches or self pity (ala US War films) and delivers an enjoyable flick bolstered even more by the fact it is based on a true story.
Watch the extras too, the interviews with descendents of the survivors is very interesting.
Finally if you enjoyed this then try reading "City of Thieves" by David Bernioff or watching "To End All Wars" with Robert Carlyle you shouldn't be disappointed.

War films are usually quite depressing to watch giving their subject matter and Defiance is no different; however this is a war film that unlike so many others, is infact a very good watch from start to finish with some outstanding performances, especially from the main stars Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell who play the Bielski brothers, three Jews who during the war helped several others to safety away from the Nazis.

While there are no amazing set-pieces (with a lot of the film being set within woodland) or film techniques like in Schindlers List, there is an amazing script based around a true story. As well as this some very impressive performances both from the major cast and those in the background (the fast growing star Mia Wasikowska (In Treatment) being brilliant in her supporting role) drive the film forward, while the side-story of the brothers separating over their choices of survival or revenge is also very tense and sad.

The opening montage of footage (real or otherwise) is also very shocking but the perfect way for setting the scene and the tone of the film. In all I am not usually a fan of war films, largely because of the subject and because some of the films that have been produced seem very dated. Defiance, however, like Schindlers List is a brilliant film that has a strong real story and some great performances. A very very good film that captures the relatively unknown story of the brothers and to think people said that Daniel Craig could not act!

I thought that this film was very good and my sister also liked it. The acting was superb especially from Daniel Craig (who should give himself a pat on the back for the work he has produced) as well as Jamie Bell as the younger brother. The films shows alot of different emotions whilst being able to survive. I think every one should watch this!!! even if you are not into history.
